On Tuesday 2/16/2016 we sat down with all of the male members of the female fronted Hard-Core Metal band, the Butcher Babies, at the House of Blues in Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas, NV for an interview and update on what’s new with the band, currently touring with Cradle of Filth.
Rockwell: Well hey there F*ckers! This is Rockwell Anderson at the House of Blues in Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas and I am here with?
Jason: Jason.
Henry: Henry.
Chris: And Chris, and we’re the Butcher Babies, and we’re ready to party with Rockwell! What’s up buddy, how’re you doing today?
Rockwell: I’m excellent. Normally we get the girls from the band, so it’s nice to finally get the guys.
Henry: Yeah, we have something to say.
Rockwell: It’s not just chicks with the Butcher Babies, it’s these ugly dude too. You guys are here for a specific reason, obviously to play the show tonight, but you released an album last year titled?
Henry: ‘Take It Like A Man’.
Rockwell: Do you guys take it like a man?
Henry: Oooh….
Chris: We bust our asses everyday. The girls and guys work our butts off so yeah, we all take it like a man; we tour constantly.
Henry: That is touring, you have to definitely take it like a man and take your punches. Touring can be a little bitch sometimes.
Rockwell: Well the album did pretty good on Billboard; it came out hot. Did it meet expectations for you guys?
Henry: Definitely surpassed expectations. We were hoping to come out strong, and I think everyone was very pleased with it. We more than doubled our last album, and that was a great goal. Everytime we play a show people know the words, and you couldn’t ask for more than that.
Rockwell: We know there are plenty of internet trolls out there and with every album you get positive and negative feedback, how do you guys take it when you get a negative review? Do you take away anything from that?
Henry: No.
Chris: Everybody has their own opinion on your band and what not, but we write the music that we want to write because we like it, and we see out there that our fans like it and our enjoying it. We’re going to have good reviews, we’re going to have bad reviews. It comes with the territory. It’s just one of those things where we just fight through it, perseverance is the main goal here, making it happen.
Henry: You actually kind of hope for that bad press sometimes. You always want people to either love it or hate it, and when they hate it, it’s just good entertainment for us. You don’t take it personally, it’s silly to.
Jason: Take it like a man.
Rockwell: How cool is it to be on tour with Cradle of Filth?
Group: F*cking awesome.
Henry: Those guys are so great. I love hanging out with them every night and watching them, they’re a super talented band and their fans are super dedicated. We’re learning a lot from those guys, it’s been great.
Rockwell: You’re (Jason) not talking enough.
Jason: I love Cradle of Filth, one of my favorites songs from them is ‘Amphetamine’. It’s a two part song, and they only play on the mellow part of it, but if you hear it on the record it’s really heavy and really melodic. I’ve been begging, “Danny, you gonna play that?” and he was like, “Nah, we’ll think about it.”
Rockwell: After this tour you guys have a bunch of festivals coming up. We’ve seen you guys before at these festivals, and in LA before you signed to Century Media in about 2013. Everyone is so disinterested at shows in LA, but seeing you at a festival is what changed my mind about you. The fans were into it, and you guys were phenomenal.
Henry: You’d be surprised. We’ll go on tour and go to a specific city, and every city is a different animal, and sometimes you just know, “Wow this is going to be a tough audience.” It has surprised us time after time that we’ll go to a place like this, and they’re insane. Shit last night, Salt Lake for some reason was a tougher crowd, but last night was awesome. I think we finally broke through in really winning people over there, and we’ll see what happens tomorrow in LA. You just never know, it’s really show-by-show.
Rockwell: I know Rocklahoma 2014, I was side stage watching your show and Mischievous Mel was shooting. Rocklahoma is really just out in the middle of nowhere, but for that whole three days you guys had the best reaction from the fans. You had the most body passing, pits, it was completely nuts. If you guys haven’t really listened to Butcher Babies before, go see them live, it will really cement you as a hardcore fan. They bring it every single show. So guys, tell us real quick where people can find you.
Henry: ButcherBabiesMusic.com, ButcherBabiesOfficial.com. We’re so easy to find, we’re everywhere.
Jason: Just go to Google and find it, we’re everywhere.
Rockwell: Any last things you want to say to the fans? Any trolls you want to say, “F*ck you,” too out there?
Henry: You guys have been coming out in droves to the shows, and keep coming out. We love to come out and say hey to everyone and thank everyone. The crowd reaction and response has been awesome, and that keeps us going. We just want it to continue that way every show. We’re playing Vegas tonight, and we’re going to bring it like we always do, and we want to just keep that going.
Rockwell: LA tomorrow, San Diego, and then on. And we’ll see you at the festivals you’re playing, which are?
Chris: Rock On The Range, Northern Invasion..
Henry: We just announced Open Air in Chicago today.
Jason: I think that’s in July.
Rockwell: July 15th – 17th. We will see you for sure at Northern Invasion, and probably Chicago Open Air. We’re uncertain about Chicago because there’s a couple other festivals that weekend, are you guys playing Cadott?
Group: No.
Chris: Just those three festivals.
Rockwell: Thank you guys and we’ll see you at Northern Invasion for sure.
Chris: We’re excited about it, come rock out with us! Thank you guys!
