The annual Burnal Equinox festival is just over a month away, on the weekend of April 2-3, 2016. The event, run by the same folks who stage the Burning Man Festival in the Nevada desert, is a celebration of creativity, freedom, and non-commercialism.
If you’ve been to Burning Man or to its Burn 2 events in Second Life, you know the Playa, the dusty landscape utterly devoid of green vegetation. You may however be surprised at a hint of green in this year’s Burnal equinox. The official press release includes these two paragraphs:
After all these years, the rains that sometimes hit the Playa have come to damp the dust down more often. What has long been a dry lake bed is slowly filling once again from meager trickles of water that are finally able to sustain some life.
A few plants are taking hold here and there but trees are yet to spread their canopies. In celebration of the Equinox we once more head to our Home for our first gathering of the year, a giant communal picnic. A new fresh living Home awaits, for us to start a new fresh year. As usual, there will be creative builds, free gifts, Lamplighter processions, and musical performances. If you’re a DJ or performer, you can sign up for a time slot here. Performers will include the spectacular not-to-be-missed ChangHigh Sisters Fireshow of Light, Life, & Love, performing at noon Pacific on April 2 p.m. PST. Another favorite, the Lamplighters, will perform their opening ritual procession at 10 a.m. PST Pacific on April 2 and their closing procession the next day at 8 p.m. PST. (By way of full disclosure, this writer is an officer in the Lamplighters).
