We all want success. There are many elements that are needed to obtain and maintain success. These include but are not limited to, having the right product, marketing (but marketing successfully – some marketing efforts can produce negative results); pitching to the right target market, presentation and strategy, just to name a few. But before you indulge in any of these, a critical element is having a successful mindset.
Managing and preparing your mind can sometimes make the difference between failing and succeeding. Without a proper mindset you can become negative quickly when things don’t work and let’s be honest in real life, at times, things don’t work out as we plan but we keep working at it. There can be many obstacles and challenges to just staying focused. It’s possible to develop the Shiny-Object Syndrome (SOS – and no that’s not the acronym for the cry for help – but maybe it should be). The shiny-object syndrome is similar to when a room is dark but you see only one shiny object sparking. Your full attention is drawn to the shiny object because you can literally see nothing else. The SOS is the same as not having a proper mindset because instead of focusing on the priority, your focused on the distraction (the sparkling shiny object) – whatever that may be; a friend calling, the TV, hanging out with family or some sociable project you never finished but decided to complete when you should be working. Another distraction that doesn’t feel like a distraction, is when you stop what you were supposed to be doing to purse the latest & greatest idea. Those things or situations, those distractions become your shiny object in a very dark room. You can’t see anything but the distraction. The priority fades away and gets refiled under procrastination – something to do another day or our favorite, later. Ultimately, you end up not reaching your set goals.
Having a successful mindset will assist you in reaching your goals & vision and in leading the life you desire faster.
How to develop a successful mindset? Start by developing successful habits. Here are a few tips:
1. Develop a system that works for you to help keep you stay on track.
2. Make a small step towards each of your goals each day.
3. Plan and create your to-do list the night before, for the next day. Have a set plan that will keep you organized and productive. Make sure you put your to-do list in priority of importance.
4. Put together all the information that could help you.
(a) Either take a quick note on your phone or take a picture of…well anything you can that helps you retain information and reminds you of what you need to work on later.
(b) Copy, paste and/or save articles that you will need as resources.
5. To eliminate procrastination, complete the task you fear or dread the most, first. Once you get that our the way the rest of your list should be easier to manage and complete.
It takes time to form a habit. On average the experts say it takes 21 days. If you employ these steps consistently, in time it will come naturally and you will start seeing the benefits.
