Provision Theater Company is thrilled to conclude its 12th season with Best of Enemies by Mark St. Germain, featuring Broadway’s Felicia Fields. The play will run April 29 – June 5 with performances on Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m. and Sundays at 3:00 pm at Provision Theater, 1001 W. Roosevelt Rd., Chicago, IL 60608. Additional preview performances will be on April 27 and April 28 at 7:30 pm.
Inspired by the best-selling book by Osha Gray Davidson, Best of Enemies is the true story about the relationship between Ann Atwater–an African-American civil rights activist, and C.P. Ellis–a Grand Cyclops of the KKK, during the desegregation of the Durham, NC schools in 1971. Best of Enemies exposes the poison of prejudice in the hearts of Atwater and Ellis who, by facing each other, are forced to face the worst–and best–in themselves. Best of Enemies will feature Tony-award nominee Felicia Fields as Atwater and Provision Theater Company Member Rod Armentrout as Ellis and will be directed by Provision Theater Founding Artistic Director Timothy Gregory.
“Best Of Enemies is a timely story,” says Gregory. “Racial divisiveness seems to have increased over the past few years. So, I think it has something to teach us about race and reconciliation. Ultimately, it reinforces the idea that it’s hard to hate up close. It’s the story about a friendship that develops against all the odds. Impossible to believe, except it’s a true story.”
Additional cast members of Best of Enemies include Tosha Fowler and Randle Michael. The production team includes Set ; Light Designer Carl Ulaazek, Costume Designer Paula Kenar, Set Dresser Mary O’Dowd, Dramaturg Jon Metzger, Assistant Stage Manager Vicky Garcia, and Production Stage Manager Denise Savas.
Ticket prices for Best of Enemies are $30. Senior, student, and military discounts are available. Free parking is included, and groups of 10 or more receive 10% off (adult tickets only).
