Kylie MacLellan wrote an article for Reuters on Jan. 18, 2016 titled “British Lawmakers Debate Banning Trump After Muslim Comments.” While all political parties condemned Donald Trump’s comments about banning Muslims, it was decided that allowing Trump to enter the UK exposed Trump to more direct comments from the British press and citizens. See the attached video for their thoughts.
Parliament debated over three hours on Jan. 18, 2016 after a petition by over 500,000 British citizens was submitted asking that Trump be denied access to the UK. Trump has exposed the racism, sexism, and religious intolerance that over 35% of US GOP voters currently support. No vote was taken, but the comments by Gavin Robinson, a member of parliament from Northern Ireland, summarized the mood of members of parliament with regard to Trump. The fact that Trump threatened to withdraw over $1.6 million in golf club investments in Scotland may also have influenced the decision.
I want to see Donald Trump come to this country … I want him to get a sense of the fury and the frustration with his xenophobic remarks.
Trump has serious spiritual flaws that are viewed with disdain by global governments. Trump has called for banning all Muslims from entry into the US, which was the major issue with regard to his entry into the UK. His remarks about Muslims, Mexicans, women and other GOP candidates are considered to be somewhere between a joke and a catastrophe by the foreign press. The thought that Trump could become president is viewed with skepticism and fear.
Spiritualists believe that “all things work for the good.” It is hard to guess what good will result from the turmoil being promoted by Trump and others campaigning for president. Nothing has exposed the US’ spiritual issues as has the 2016 presidential elections. Trump has made racist, sexist, and elitist slogans that appeal to the lowest common denominators among US voters. For a nation that claims Christian values, it is apparent that the Golden Rule is a slogan for the naïve to salve their conscious while denying fundamental human values to those seeking entry into the US to escape religious wars, drug wars, and the resultant slaughter of the innocents.
We are exposing our worst side to the world through the demagoguery of Donald Trump and the masses that support his radical agenda. The Atlantic published an article focused on the meaning of demagoguery and presented Donald J. Trump as their example. The article was published on Dec. 15, 2015 and was titled “What We Talk About When We Talk About ‘Demagogues'”.
It is time that we display the courage that we have exhibited throughout our history in standing against injustice, working for equality of all, and upholding the vision of our founders in the pursuit of liberty and happiness for all. It is time we return to the spiritual values that we have exhibited before we succumbed to fear and mistrust of everyone in the name of preventing acts of terror and preserving the wealth of the 1% that run the US.
We don’t need foreign governments to judge the inappropriateness of those attempting to be president of the US with regard to being worthy of basic human values. We can do better, and we must do better if we are to restore the spiritual values that have led us through world calamities. May the force be with us again.
