Zella Moretz Roberts is a resident at Broadmore Senior Living in Bristol, Tennessee. Over the weekend, she celebrated her 107th birthday with friends and family, according to WJHL.com on Sunday. Roberts moved to the area in 1936 and, although she never had children, she has an extensive extended family of nieces and nephews. She was also joined in her birthday festivities by friends from First Christian Church in Bristol, Virginia.
It is amazing to think that Zella Moretz Roberts has been alive well over a century, but, even more amazing, there are many other supercentenarians who lived much longer than that. Wikipedia.com keeps a list of such special folks. Jeanne Calment is at the top of the list. She lived to be 122 years and 164 days old in France. There is a designation for those who are still alive on the list. Susanna Mushat Jones is the oldest living person at 116 years and 239 days.
CNN interviewed people who managed to live past 100, and their secrets for longevity varied. One lady credited her age with being kind to others. Another abstained from alcohol, and yet another drank three bottles of Miller High Life and a glass of whisky every day. One wise lady felt that she had lived to be 109 because she never married. “They’re more trouble than they’re worth,” she said.
The Bristol City Buzz Examiner wishes Zella Moretz Roberts a very Happy Birthday. Wouldn’t it be delightful to sit down with her and see what she sees as the reason for her longevity? If you would like to send her a birthday card, address it to:
