Goodbye 2015, hello 2016. The calendar may change pages, but the quality of classic rock concerts in the Phoenix area does not. 2016 looks to be another stellar year for classic rock groups coming to the Valley. Here is January’s schedule to start things off. Unfortunately, some nights, you’ll have two concerts to choose from.
January 8, 2016 at 8 p.m. TODD RUNDGREN at the Talking Stick Resort Showroom in Scottsdale. Hello it’s him. If you’re ready to see the light, you’ll be in for a Utopian experience. Although you never know quite what to expect to hear in a Todd Rundgren show, this may be as close to a greatest hits tour as you’ll see from him. The show is sold out but ticket prices were listed as $25 to $60, plus fees.
January 8, 2016 at 8 p.m. DONNY OSMOND at the Wild Horse Pass Casino Ovations LIVE! Showroom in Chandler. This former teen idol always claimed he was a little bit rock and roll. He transformed his puppy love to being a soldier in love. Can you believe he’s been singing his way into your hearts for 50 years now? Tickets range from $65 to $135 with fees to be tacked on.
January 10, 2016, time unknown. JOHN MELLENCAMP, in downtown Phoenix as part of the AT&T Playoff Playlist Live! Want to be part of the College National Championship but didn’t score tickets to the game? Leave your little pink house and head to downtown Phoenix and enjoy the Fan Central celebrations including this live concert. The walls may not be tumbling down but it is a free concert. Gates open at 12:30 p.m.
January 16, 2016 at 8 p.m. THE TEMPTATIONS at the Wild Horse Pass Casino Ovations LIVE! Showroom. My girl, get ready cuz’ here they come. Is it just my imagination or was your papa a rolling stone? It’s one big ball of confusion to me. It is the Motown sound at its finest. Tickets range from $35 to $99 with those fees you adore added on.
January 17, 2016 at 8 p.m. STYX at the Talking Stick Resort Grand Ballroom in Scottsdale. For all you renegades who have too much time on your hands, come sail away and rock the paradise with these boys from Chicago. The show is nearly sold out but a few tickets remain. Ticket prices were listed as $35 to $150, plus fees. There are some more expensive VIP packages as well.
January 22, 2016 at 8 p.m. DAVE MASON at the Talking Stick Resort Showroom in Scottsdale. You’ll be feelin’ alright as the co-founder of Traffic brings his new band, Traffic Jam, to town. You may see the low spark of high heeled boys if you listen to dear old Mr. Fantasy. This show is also nearly sold out but ticket prices range from $30 to $65, plus fees.
January 22, 2016 at 8 p.m. BURTON CUMMINGS at the Wild Horse Pass Casino Ovations LIVE! Showroom. Guess who was the lead vocalist on the song “American Woman.” You may be laughing or come undun when you hear his voice. You might even clap for the Wolfman. Will there be sugar tonight? No. Tickets are priced from $33 to $83 with fees as well.
January 25, 2016 at 8 p.m. EUROPE at the Wild Horse Pass Casino Ovations LIVE! Showroom. It’s far from the final countdown for these rockers as they bring their “War of Kings” tour to town. Open your heart and tell Carrie to go. Tickets run from $30 to $60 plus those fees you love.
January 30, 2016 at 6:30 p.m. BLUE OYSTER CULT and FOGHAT at the UltraStar Amphitheater next door to Harrahs Ak-Chin Casino in Maricopa. More cowbell. If you don’t fear the reaper and find yourself burning for you, take a slow ride out to Maricopa and enjoy these two 1970’s hit makers. Best of all, it’s free admission although it is lawn seating.
January 30, 2016 at 8 p.m. JERRY RIOPELLE at the Talking Stick Resort Showroom in Scottsdale. Normally he is a New Year’s fixture in the Valley, but he had to postpone his show for a few weeks. It’s not like he can go walkin’ on water. It’s an easy drive out to Scottsdale to catch this show. Ticket prices go from $25 to $75, plus fees.
