Mother Charged in Death of 5-month-old Son in Bibb County
A Macon woman has been charged in the beating death of her 5-month-old son who was reportedly found unresponsive in his crib months earlier in Bibb County.
Kaundre Orr, 24, was arrested around 11 a.m. Tuesday and charged with murder and cruelty to children in the April 20 death of her child, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office. Orr was denied bond and remained in the Bibb County jail Tuesday night, the sheriff’s spokesman Lt. Randy Gonzalez said.
That Monday, deputies responded to 1055 Cypress Drive where they found the infant unresponsive, Gonzalez said. The mother told deputies she laid the infant down for a nap and then she lied down in the room with him.
She said she got up about 10 minutes later and found the infant unresponsive in the crib, Gonzalez said. The infant was taken by ambulance to the Medical Center, Navicent Health where he was later pronounced dead, the lieutenant said. Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones said the baby died from blows to his head, chest and abdomen, according to a media report.
Still the investigation into the baby’s death is ongoing and anyone with information about his death is asked to contact the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office at (478) 751-7500.
Boy, 13, Charged in Accidental Shooting of His Mother
A13-year-old boy has been charged days after he allegedly shot his mother in the neck. Still, police said the shooting appeared to be accidental.
The boy, whose name has not been released, was charged with aggravated assault, according to 11 Alive News. His mother underwent surgery, but her condition was unknown Tuesday.
The boy told police he found the gun in the neighborhood and thought it was fake, according to Fulton County police. The shooting happened around 8 p.m. Saturday inside the home in the Amhurst subdivision.
The teen’s older brother said the boy found the gun somewhere in the neighborhood and brought it home, according to Channel 2 Action News. Both brothers reportedly thought the gun was a toy. The 13-year-old was playing with the gun, which had no magazine in it, when he accidentally fired a shot and struck his mother in the neck, Channel 2 reported.
The family has already faced one tragedy when in September 2014, the boy’s father, Hardy Touray, was shot and killed at a gas station near his home. Touray was described as a community activist whose goal was to help the community, the news station reported.
