It may be beginning to look a lot like Christmas, but that doesn’t mean the organizers of the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival have taken the week off. On the contrary, the Bonnaroo clue elves arrived as scheduled on Dec. 22nd to drop the fifth in their series of RooClues. The Bonnaroo lineup clue game is played on the festival’s Instagram page and delivers two riddles per week that point to artists booked to play Bonnaroo 2016. Some clues have been relatively easy while others are still being debated.
The clue reads as follows: “From a band of deer-slaying brethren is born a cockroach devouring architect.” Perhaps feeling generous with the Christmas spirit, the RooClue writers appear to have gifted fans with a softball for their fifth clue, as the near unanimous consensus around social media outlets is that the clue points too rapper and producer Tyler, The Creator.
To connect Tyler, The Creator to that mouthful of a clue requires a little knowledge about his background. Tyler, The Creator is a member of the hip-hop collective known as Odd Future, but their full group name is Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All. With that full group name, it’s fairly easy to connect Tyler, The Creator to the first part of the clue, since a “wolf gang” would be a band of deer-slaying brethren.
The second part of the clue, referring to “cockroach devouring” is likely a reference to Tyler, The Creator’s music video for the song “Yonkers”. In it, the rapper is seen holding, then eating, a cockroach.
That only leaves the “architect” part of the clue, which likely would have led some to guess Tyler, The Creator even if the rest of the clue didn’t fit so well. An architect would certainly be considered a “creator” by most people. Additionally, Tyler, The Creator is considered the leader of Odd Future, which would make him the “architect” of the collective.
Disagree that the clue refers to Tyler, The Creator? Or do you just want to help solve some of the previous clues that are still being debated? There are several ways to play the game.
