Bogota High School defeated Hawthorne Christian, 45-24, in high school girls’ basketball.
Bogota’s Leila Kysier is two-guard who knows how to score. She is strong from the outside, but can also drive quickly to the basket. Many of her scoring opportunities come from fast breaks that she creates from working so hard for rebounds. She finished with 13 rebounds, 3 steals, and 19 points. Bogota led at the end of the first quarter 13-8.
Starting senior guard Genesis Bayron is a huge addition to the Hawthorne Christian team. G. Bayron is a transfer student from the Academy of Holy Angels. She brings leadership, poise, and and strong offensive presence to the team. She can attack with both the left and right hands. She is good at driving in and drawing fouls. She is also a strong outside shooter. She finished with 2 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, and 11 points. Bogota led at the end of the second quarter 16-12.
Bogota started the second half off strong and scored several quick baskets. Emily Robbins is a defensive specialist who is good at pressuring the ball, providing help defense, and anticipating steals. She can also attack the basket and uses a variation of the Pro Hop to finish. She had 3 rebounds, 3 steals, 2 assists, 1 blocked shot, and 3 points. Bogota led at the end of the third quarter 35-22.
Hawthorne Christian’s starting sophomore combo guard Adriana Bayron is another transfer from Holy Angels. Although she and her sister play the same position, they are virtually polar opposites on the court. A. Bayron is strong and loves to go inside for rebounds. She is extremely aggressively. She sees the floor and is a great passer. She is good at engaging defenders to get teammates open. She is even better at pushing the ball and accurately hitting teammates during fast breaks. Both Genesis’ and Adriana’s styles of play compliment each other on the floor. Bayron had 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal, 2 blocked shots, and 2 points.
Bogot’a Alanah O’Brien is a big part of the team. She is patient, can help bring up the ball and is a good passer from the wing. She has a deadly three-point shot. She had 4 rebounds, 1 steal, 2 assists, and 11 points. Hawthorne Christian’s Haley Esobar has strong hands and can cut to the basket. She had 7 rebounds, 1 blocked shot, and 8 points.
