It’s time, once again, for that zany basset-lovers outing called the BoardWaddle! Tri-State Basset Hound Rescue sponsors the two-day hound fun fest to coincide with Ocean City’s Doo Dah Parade, the yearly dose of humor that takes (most of) the pain out of paying taxes. 2016’s Waddle is scheduled to take place on Friday and Saturday, April 15th and 16th. This year it’s a special one as Tri-State marks 30 years of helping the hounds.
Here’s what’s happening.
Friday, April 15th
The fun begins with Basset Olympics at noon, held at the Tabernacle, 6th Street and Asbury Avenue. Get ready for exciting events such as the 10-Meter Sprint, 15-Meter Hurdles and the classic Basset High Jump. . . with the bar located 6″ off the ground. You’ll laugh and laugh and laugh and just maybe forget about those taxes.
Friday night brings the annual Dinner/Pawction at Greate Bay Country Club in nearby Somers Point, N.J. You have to be registered for this, but contact Dana to see if there are any spots left. Tons and tons of great basset merchandise and other “stuff” will be auctioned off to help the houndies. You never know what you might find, like a basset painting or a Coach purse or other must-have item. If you can’t make it and would like to bid, or you want to find out if you can still participate in the Dinner/Pawction, contact Dana HERE.
Saturday, April 16th
Get ready to waddle! The bassets of Tri-State Basset Hound Rescue always bring up the rear of Ocean City’s infamous Doo Dah Parade. This year will be no exception but, as I said, it’s a special year. Not only is it Tri-State’s 30th anniversary, Ocean City’s long-serving Public Relations Director and the man responsible for getting the hounds into the parade, is retiring. Mark Soifer will be on a float with his family to celebrate his last Doo Dah Parade and he will be escorted by none other than Flash the Wonder Dog, Tri-State’s resident artist hound. If you’ve seen the Waddle shirts from the last two years, you know Flash’s work.
Registration for the Waddle begins at the Tabernacle, 6th Street and Asbury Avenue at 10 a.m. and ends at 11:30. You and your hound(s) must be registered and in line by noon to waddle.
After the waddling ends, be sure and come to the Tri-State picnic, located in the football practice field behind the Civic Center. Chill out with all the Tri-State hounds and humans, peruse the arts & crafts, get something to eat and buy lots of stuff at the Tri-State store. There will be dogs available for adoption and you just might find your new BFF.
It’s all happening in beautiful Ocean City, N.J., just voted the Best Beach in America by Coastal Living magazine. If you’re in the area, come on down! The hounds will be waiting for you!
