Rejoice, ladies, life just got a little easier in Manhattan with the recent opening of two brand new Blo dry bars in convenient locations. The Upper West Side now has a Blo bar on Amsterdam Avenue at 74th Street, just steps from the 72nd Street metro stop, and within a stone’s toss of Grand Central Station, the second new spot just opened its doors last Thursday on East 49th Street between Lexington and Third Avenues. Just in time for the hot and humid days that bring on flatness and frizz, Blo offers a menu of glamorous options for fast and full blow outs that actually last for quite a few days. This writer asked for Pillow Talk, basically the type of perfectly messy beach waves that look great even after workouts and pillow head, and four days later I have yet to wash my hair. Blo uses Unite hair products, and the volume boost the shampoo and conditioner gives is no joke; clean looking hair for days.
No one has time to struggle at home with the blow dryer, especially when the weather is supreme and being stuck inside the bathroom is a downer, and Blo’s stylists are so skilled with a dryer and curling iron the client is in and out in 45 minutes. The bars are organized for efficiency, with comfy wash stations and accommodating staff. The Amsterdam Avenue location is 2 blocks from my gym, so I can get in a work out and get a blow out and go out on the town without having to worry about washing and drying my hair at home, which can take a good hour as my hair is long and takes a while to dry. The East Side location is convenient because of the proximity to Grand Central and the shuttle, as well as Metro North, with the M57 bus just a few blocks up Lex, and there is usually no difficulty catching a cab on Third Ave. No matter where you are off to, a wash and blow out at either location is expedient glamour just the way New York City women like it.
Created in 2007, CEO Vanessa Melman Yakobson has turned Blo into the world’s largest blow dry bar franchise, with more than 65 locations in 4 countries – and 20 new locations opening in 2016. Blo creates an evolving hair menu that is guided by seasonal trends, and each style is then tailored to fit the individual style of the client by one of Blo’s expert stylists – making sure that every woman leaves having their best hair day. The signature blo out service features seven styles that range from the classic blo out to runway-inspired curls.
Additional Blo services done across all locations include:
1. Up Do a la Carte – custom up-dos
2. Clip-in Hair Extensions
4. Head Massages
5. Blo Bridal Bar service to prep you and your bridal party for your big day
In addition to in-house styling, Blo On The Go is a custom service that brings Blo’s styling services to your doorstep – home or away.
