Update! This sweet dog was just pulled by Marta Sanchez and is going to Fur Angels rescue! This wonderful rescue has saved other dogs in need of medical care from Miami Dade Animal Services!! To donate or offer to foster for Fur Angels, please visit this link.
A very sweet dog is in grave danger at the county shelter. Staff at this shelter placed a dog who appears to be blind with another dog who is growling and snapping at him. Bear, the dog with very limited vision, is very sweet, and the shelter staff wrote on his kennel card: “Sweet boy! May be partially blind.” But in spite of this, they placed him in a small kennel with a dog who is bullying Bear and seems to be on the verge of attacking the helpless blind dog. A visitor wrote: “He is pretty much blind, and no matter where he turns, he is in his kennelmate’s space, bumping heads, risking a growl, or worse!”
Bear is emaciated, but how will he find his food bowl, and will shelter staff make sure that his kennelmate lets him eat? Volunteers aren’t confident that will happen. The volunteer who filmed and photographed him noted that his ribs show and he’s in poor overall condition. His eyes are droopy, red, crusted and weepy.
She wrote on his Facebook post:
In his short stay, he has quickly become a staff favorite who note he is very sweet. If he manages to stay alive, he will have a very tough time for the duration at this kill shelter. He needs rescue ASAP or a very patient special adopter.. Please share!”
The video by Marta Sanchez is heartbreaking. It shows poor Bear at the front of the kennel trying to go toward the back but being attacked by his kennel mate each time he tries to go by him. Bear is submissive and cowers but is unable to go past the other dog and the bed. He’s stuck in the corner of the kennel with no way to get past the other dog. It’s a scary situation for Bear and for those who watched helplessly as Bear tried to negotiate his way around.
Please share Bear’s story! He urgently needs to be out of the shelter for many reasons. This shelter kills dogs who are considered ill or in need of medical treatment. Bear is not only emaciated, but he has vision problems. He has obviously been on his own for a while or severely neglected. He needs to get competent medical care and be in a safe environment.
There may be updated information on his Facebook thread. Bear is ID#A1776634. He is listed as a four-year-old American bulldog.
