Any thinking person cannot help ponder the question; of all the animals and children born into the world on a day to day basis, why do some end up in homes where they are loved, sheltered and cared for and others in homes where they are abused, neglected and oftentimes ignored? It just doesn’t seem fair does it?
You have to also wonder, where do these people come from? These people devoid of any intelligence or conscience. Those who treat living beings with the utmost contempt and carelessness. And why in 2016, are they still allowed to live among intelligent, evolved, thinking people?
A classic example of this occurred recently in Defuniack Springs, Florida where two residents of a mobile home park were arrested during a drug bust. They had two kids although they have never been married and have been in and out of jail all their lives. There were also three dogs on the property, all suffering from neglect. There were also reports of violence in the house. It wasn’t until the concerned neighbors stepped in that DCF finally got involved on behalf of the children and a rescue group known as C. Dog Run stepped in on behalf of the dogs.
One dog was removed from the home and two American Bulldogs were left. One was just a mere puppy, only 5 months old. She was placed into a foster home after being fully vetted. That left Big Ben. A large, 2 year old white American Bulldog.
Poor Ben had spent his life at the end of a chain outside in all types of inclement weather even though the poor soul is terrified of storms. If the female in the couple tried to bring Ben inside the male would grab her by the hair and throw her on the ground telling her Ben was on a chain for a reason.
When C. Dog Run got to Ben, they found his living conditions deplorable. His food was covered with mold and had maggots in it, the water was also full of mold and he was having to walk in his own feces the short distance the chain would allow him to go. The neighbors supplied a small dog house stuffed with hay when his owners offered him no shelter.
C. Dog Run moved Ben to a different part of the property where they cleaned him up and gave him fresh food and water in clean dishes. They asked the neighbor to continue to look after him until they could find a place for him. As those in the rescue world know, big dogs are difficult to place. However, Ben was coughing very badly most likely due to being left out in the cold and wet weather. He was given antibiotics about a month ago but the cough has continued and his groin became so swollen he could hardly walk. Then he quit eating. Prognosis: Ben has severe Bronchitis, and a possible abscess in his abdomen that will require surgery. He is still on antibiotics and waiting to get a little better.
Although Ben is a very sick boy and C. Dog Run is not equipped to deal with such a large medical bill, they are not going to give up on Ben. They made a commitment to save him and do right by him and they are determined to stay the course.
They want nothing more than to see Ben leave the vet a healthy dog and taken in to a foster, or adopter who will give him a good home. One that was so sadly lacking with his first owners.
Despite all he has been through, sweet Ben is a gentle giant and wants to be loved and cuddled.
C. Dog Run is requesting donations to help Ben get better and to help defray his mounting medical costs.
Donations can be made by calling the Freeport Pet Clinic directly at 850-835-1500 and advising you want to donate for Ben under C. Dog Run Rescue or by going to his fundraiser page at:
If Ben had not been taken from his chain he would’ve surely died at the end of it. Help him recover and get a second chance at life. He is only two years old and so deserving of it.
