Better Earth is an earth-friendly store in the North Market in Columbus. A previous article mentioned some of the many fine personal items, cleaning items and grocery items available at Better Earth. Better Earth is also a great one-stop shop for clothing, fragrance and essential oils, artisan glassware and other unique accessories; many of the items are made locally.
Aromatherapy essential oils, perfume oils, fragrance oils and incense are always on offer, and the incense can be purchased singly, in bulk or packaged. Perfume diffusers and incense burners are also available for purchase. Sterling silver and gemstone jewelry can be found at Better Earth, as well as jewelry crafted by local artisan jewelry makers. Additionally, Better Earth owner Dareen Wearstler and local silversmith and jewelry designer Bonnie Moseley offer repair services for your jewelry in need of repair.
Better Earth has unique clothing and accessory items, too: organic cotton socks and tights, quilted purses, oriental carpet design coin purses, and a line of items by Laurel Burch featuring cat-themed socks, mugs, purses, and scarves.
Locally crafted pottery, geodes and polished rocks, hand blown glass bottles and Fair Trade items are on offer, and the selection of merchandise is always changing as new items are created by the artists. A special feature at Better Earth is a selection of hand-blown glass pieces from Columbus’ local artist and icon Robert Eickholt. Better Earth purchased a variety of Mr. Eickholt’s final works before he became a ‘commission only”’ artisan.
Better Earth is open Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturdays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sundays noon to 5 p.m. – they are closed on Mondays.
While you’re at the North Market, stop for a refreshing beverage at Bubbles Tea & Juice Company. Bubbles offers milk teas, iced teas, fresh juices and smoothies at their original location in North Market (across from Sarefino’s Pizzeri) seven days a week; a portion of the proceeds benefit Ronald McDonald House and NC4K Charity.
