It’s been a long year and we’re getting ready to say good-bye to 2015 and hello to 2016. There are lots to look forward to in the new year like the Presidential election, award season and the continuing saga of the Kardashians. But before the hoopla begins, it’s time to be all Auld Lang Syne and find yourself the best place to party in Los Angeles. Here are a few ideas to consider.
Grand Park & the Music Center’s NYE LA
Only a few years old and Grand Park DTLA has become the place to go to celebrate the new year and the best part about the whole thing – it’s free. This year, we hear, will be bigger and grander than ever, as the third annual block party covers 90 acres of Grand Park, the Music Center and adjacent streets in DTLA. There will be three, count ‘em, three stages with music: rock, Latin, alternative, indie pop and electronica. Revelers can partake in the food trucks but leave your drink at home because this is an alcohol-free family event. 200 N. Grand Ave. DTLA. Dec 31. 8pm to 1am. Info here
Queen Mary’s NYE Party
Okay, not technically Los Angeles, but the LA Metro can take you here for a stress free ride, plus you won’t need to bother with a designated driver. QM is not a free event – you’ll expect to shell out $99/person or VIP $199, but you get to ring in the new year in five major cities: New Orleans, Moscow, Beijing, Tokyo and Hollywood with cuisine and entertainment including in your admission from each of these cities. And if that wasn’t enough, a midnight fireworks show over the Long Beach harbor.
1126 Queens Highway, Long Beach. Dec 31 8pm to 1am. Info here
Pluto’s First Party at The Ace Hotel
Here’s a new addition to the NYE celebrations around town: “Pluto’s First Party” taking place upstairs at the Ace Hotel in DTLA. Another free event offering DJs in an outer space themed environment. The party promises alien sightseeing, interstellar light and future life form caricatures, so if you’re looking for a unique way to ring in the new year this might be your choice. 929 S. Broadway, DTLA. Dec 31, 8pm. Info here
The Federal Bar Noho
Okay, so you live in the valley and you’re just not going to drive over the hill well, The Federal Bar in the new hip dive spot Noho is throwing a party with lots of hip-hop and R&B music. If you’re after a bar hop evening, $20.00 in advance will get you in the door, but you can get a four-course pre fix mean for $75.00 per person which includes beer flight, wine or champagne toast. For $100 you get all of the above plus exclusive entrance to the upstairs club and hors d’oeuvres.
5303 Lankershim Blvd. Noho. Info here
In October the newly-renovated historic Clifton’s Cafeteria opened, and new owner Andrew Meieran kept the charm of the original plus added his own sensibilities to the décor, plus a revamped the menu to the 21st century appeal. This will be their first NYE party, which they will be throwing until 4am. The night will be filled with DJs, dancing, magic shows, burlesque, and puppeteering, hosted by those amazing folks who put on the biannual Dapper Day at Disneyland. You’ll probably want to dress to impress in your best 1920s dapper duds or not.
648 S. Broadway, DTLA. Dec 31 8pm to 4am. Tickets $106 to $211. More info
Keep safe and have a good time. Happy New Year.
