Tonight’s Discovery Channel episode of “Bering Sea Gold,” was titled “Rock Bottom.” As the episode begins, the Tomcod claim is causing frustration for Shawn Pomrenke. Could he have found all the gold there? He only needs 58 ounces to return to the Bluff. He checks a pan and finally finds some color.
On the Rock Wall claim, The Havilah has Zeke behind on the line. His boss wants 500 ounces for the season and all they have is 59 ounces. As Scott Davenport is above, Zeke is below prospecting and finds a spot that looks promising, until the coordinates are checked to find they are on Pomrenke’s claim.
In Nome harbor, it is halfway through the mining season, and Vern Adkison is finally ready to launch his robot. Just before the launch is prepared, the rope holding it up breaks and the sub-dredge dropped to the bottom of the sea. The camera on it kicked up so much silt that the technician cannot see.
On the Reaper, they abandoned their claim and came to where they knew there was gold. The almost failure has exactly one more tank of gas. Kris comes up to check the sluice. Unfortunately, or as the Kelly luck would have it; Kris notices that the sluice is out of position, and the gold went back down into the sea.
The Christine Rose is lifting buckets in hope of finding the last of the gold when Zeke arrives via skiff. Zeke asks if he can come to an agreement for a royalty if they can mine their claim. It is too deep for the Christine Rose to mine, so Shawn agrees.
Kris made the repairs to the sluice and tested the engine that backfired and took on water and will not start again until they remove the water, of course, it is Kris’ fault, because he gets blamed for everything that goes wrong.
The Havilah received permission to mine on Claim 38; Zeke is strong and knows how to find gold. Scott found a nugget in the sluice while Zeke was below and was like a kid in the candy store.
When the Reaper finally gets the motor going, it is brother Andy’s turn to dive. On the All In, Vern sent Bobby Lowe down to secure the sub-dredge and bring it back to the surface. Vern is worried that his quarter million-dollar investment is shattered to pieces. Bobby found it on its side and hooked it to the winch, so they can lift it up. When it finally arrived on the boat, Phil inspected it for damage, and it looked like it was fine; however, no dredging today.
On the Havilah, Zeke’s job may be on the line, but at the Pomrenke shack, the needed 58 ounces comes up 2.5 ounces short. What a bummer.
Zeke’s boss arrives after a 20-hour flight. At the cleanup, it is Shawn, Zeke and his boss watching the lowly total of 13.55 ounces. Zeke is dejected, and his boss is grouchy enough after the flight, without expecting the mother lode. Shawn’s take of the gold was 2.7 ounces and put him over the 58-ounce goal and off to the Bluff, they will go on this episode of “Bering Sea Gold.”
