Last night’s Discovery Channel episode of “Bering Sea Gold,” was titled “Father’s Day.” As the episode begins, it is Friday, just two days before Father’s Day in Nome. On the Reaper, the fighting Kelly boys are heading to their claim with father of the century, Brad. Kris is looking to lead his family to glory; he hopes to hug it out and make money for the family. The bottom is covered with sand, but Derek McLarty on the High Noon has gotten rid of the sand and found gold. Unfortunately, the suction they have is not sufficient to rid the bottom of the sand necessary to find gold.
On the Tomcod claim, Shawn is hoping that he did not find all the gold left on the claim. Father and son are not feeling the love. Shawn wants to head to the bluff, but Steve is hesitant for his son to go there while he can still find gold with the Christine Rose.
Derek McLarty on the High Noon has Dylan Pomrenke working for him; he is tired of working for family. The twelve-inch nozzle can take off a hand along with the arm if Dylan is not careful. However, as Dylan goes down, he cannot hear Derek, but Derek can hear him having a panic attack on his first dive ever. He came to the surface and got a pep talk from the crew. However, he did not feel comfortable so Spenser was the next diver to go.
On the Christine Rose, Shawn is proud of his son, not knowing that he could not make his first dive. On the Reaper, Kris is desperate to find cobble on the claim, but all he has found since he began is nothing but sand. Kris is pessimistic to begin with, but he is really pissed off for falling for his father’s promise to find gold on his loser claim.
In Nome, Steve Pomrenke is driving with Wallace his father who is 89. Wally was the first Pomrenke to mine in Nome. Steve realized that he, and his father were at loggerheads and had a hard time working together. He realized that he was just like his father. But Shawn is a different kind of father and took Dylan for his first diving lesson, and his dad had patience with him.
The Kelly guys are moving to greener pastures. Kris continues to be mad and blames his father for being a loser. When he finally gets out of the car, his father comes out and starts to fight his son. His brother tries to break up the fight, but the producers stop the fight.
On the High Noon, Dylan is back and going down after his lesson. Dylan went down with Spenser because the hose is hard to handle for only one diver. Dylan thanked Derek from down below, and Derek told him he was proud of him.
It is Father’s Day, and Kris came to apologize to his father and came back to work on the Reaper. Kris is a glutton for punishment.
Shawn wished his father a happy Father’s Day and handed him a jar of gold worth $62,000, nice gift. Now Shawn is just 58 ounces from going to the Bluff on this episode of “Bering Sea Gold.”
