Bellator MMA made a stop in Fresno, California and presented local prospects and established veterans in front of a near capacity crowd at the Save Mart Center. The matchup between British striker Paul Day and Andy Uhrich was moved to the main event after former UFC veteran and one time champion contender Josh Koscheck had to withdraw from the event due to an injury.
It was said leading up to this event by Paul Daley that his fight would serve as the main event regardless of Koscheck’s involvement. In a pre-fight message aired over the big screens inside the arena Daley said this fight would serve as preview to what he would do to Koshceck, who once defeated Daley at UFC 113.
The preview was brief as the fight came to a sudden end when Daley landed a right uppercut that would serve as a highlight one punch knockout in the very first round. After the fight Daley would taunt his rival who was seated cage side. He would also taunt the near capacity Fresno crowd in effort to promote a potential grudge match.
Also featured on the card was a battle between Ryan Couture and Patricky Freire. The two would open the minute trying to establish a distance. However it would be the powerful and accurate striking of the “Ptibull” that would be the difference. Midway through the round Patricky would land a powerful left hook that crumbled Couture to the canvas forcing referee John McCarthy to step in and stop the fight. Couture would lay motionless for a brief period and he was ultimately removed from the cage on a stretcher as a standard precautionary measure set forth by the California Athletic Commission.
