Weekend two of Coachella is underway, so your social media feeds are about to be flooded with flower crowns, flash tattoos, kimonos, frayed shorts and gladiator sandals. If you’ve ever been to the famous music festival, or any music festival for that matter, you know you’ll be out and about all day.
We know not everyone is Kendall or Kylie Jenner, who have their glam squad follow them literally to the festival to keep their look constantly looking fresh.
For the festival newbie who wants to maintain their cuteness for the entire time they’re rocking out to their favorite band here are a few tips and items that are important to keep handy.
Prep your skin: If your skin is prone to oil and/or breakouts, it’s best to make sure you prep your face with a good primer and loose powder to set your look before you head out. Try Benefit’s POREfessional or SmashBox’s Photo Finish Foundation Primer Light. After you’ve done your makeup, set it all with a good loose powder like Laura Mercier’s Translucent Loose Setting Powder or MAC’s Prep + Prime Transparent Finishing Powder . Insider tip, try putting your loose powder on before your foundation for ultimate staying power.
Sunscreen: It doesn’t matter whether you lather up before you head out the door, you’re going to need to reapply throughout the day. There are so many sunscreens out on the market now that you don’t have an excuse for not wearing it! Got oily skin? Try Neutrogena’s Ultra Sheer Aerosol SPF 45, which is oil-free. Dry Skin? Try Supergoop! Sun-Defying Sunscreen Oil Broad Spectrum SPF 50. If you don’t like sprays, use an oil. If you don’t like oil, try a sunscreen stick, like this one from the Jessica Alba’s Honest Co.
Oil Blotting Papers: At the festival you’re going to get hot and sweaty and that “glow” make look like grease in your photos. Oil absorbing blotting papers are a a gift from God when you’re desperate to soak up some of oil on your T-Zone. Palladio’s Oil Absorbing Rice Paper Tissues are a good option, they’re cheap and actually contain powders to keep oil at bay. Sephora Collection Bamboo Charcoal Blotting Papers may seem intimidating, but the bamboo charcoal serves as an antibacterial to keep skin matte and refreshed.
Moisturizing Lipstick or Lip Balm: Cracked and dry lips are not the business, especially if you see a hottie at one of the food stands. Keep lip balm and your favorite lip color on you to insure your look is kept together. One piece of advice, don’t bring your super expensive lipstick with you just in case it melts or gets lost. Find your favorite shade at a more wallet-friendly price point so you won’t get heartbroken when you loose one of your favorite LimeCrime or YSL shades. NYX, Covergirl, and Milani make great lip colors that are long-lasting and moisturizing. As for lip balm, pack whatever works for you. Aquaphor makes a great one and you can’t go wrong with Burt’s Bees or EOS.
False Eyelashes: Yes, it will be hot. Yes, the last thing you’d want to do would be to put on falsies. However, false lashes will not only open up your eyes, but you won’t need to wear that much eye makeup. The lashes at Esqido are not only light and natural looking, they’re even a celebrity favorite. “Handcrafted from the softest and finest naturally shed mink hairs, our lashes are inexplicably natural looking. Combined with their beautiful curls, these ultra fine lashes give your eyes a natural lift.” If that statement from the website hasn’t sold you on these, then you’re better off just wearing some waterproof mascara.
Waterproof Mascara: To prevent raccoon eyes, bring along some waterproof mascara that will stay put. Find your favorite brand, and most likely you’ll find a water-proof counterpart.
Dry Shampoo: This goes without any explanation. Dry shampoo will be your savior. Batiste has been a fan favorite for years and comes in many different scents to keep hair smelling fresh while rap along with Ice Cube. Bumble and Bumble make great hair powders that not only soak up oil but also cover roots, in case you weren’t able to sneak in a hair appointment before you left town.
Antiperspirant Wipes: Okay, no one will technically be able to smell you through your Instagram posts, but still be considerate for the people around you. Carrying around a stick of antiperspirant will not only turn into a mess in your bag, but it also takes up unnecessary space. Throw in some antiperspirant wipes with you that will keep you fresh all day long. La Fresh and Dermadoctor makes great wipes that are travel-friendly and are pocket-sized.
Sanitizing Wipes: The desert gets dusty, especially at night and port-a-potties sometime become your only option when Mother Nature calls. To stay clean when you don’t want to waste your precious water, make sure to make some sanitizing wipes. Softy makes great variations of the wipes. You also can’t go wrong with good old Wet Ones or just regular baby wipes.
Now that you’ve got all the essentials in your arsenal, you’re ready to be cute and fresh sashaying across those Polo Fields.
