Of all electronics, only computers have gone from an ugly duckling to that of the Swann. For example, compare the clunky look of a laptop from the early days of portable PC use with today — there’s no comparison. Today’s laptops combine a level of attractiveness that seems all out of proportion to its task, but that’s OK. What’s not OK are the kinds of enclosures that laptops get tossed into when it’s time to take them “on the road.” To reverse that trend gives us STM’s Grace Deluxe Laptop Sleeve for 15″ MacBooks and Ultrabooks.
The Grace fulfills the basic purpose of a laptop carry bag in that it’s designed for Apple 15″ laptops as well as others whose main compartment fulfill the basic size requirement of being at 14.5-Inch x 9.7-Inch x 1.1-Inch (the exterior clocks in at 16.4 x 0.8 x 11.2 inches). There’s none of this “built-in”electronics business either: reach inside the Grace and you don’t feel anything except cushioned material designed to avoid scratching the laptop or other device placed inside (for example, a tablet or tablet combined with keyboard to form a DIY laptop). That’s due to a plush interior lining which adds support and vibration absorption to the protection foam integrated into the bag’s construction.
Besides the obviously necessary inner compartment for the laptop, there’s also a front zippered pocket. It’s here that smaller, necessary items can be stored: pens and cords, a mobile phone, audio recorder or pocket camera, etc., the kind of things that are easily lost in a big open space (as well as having the ability to poke or bend into delicate electronics or just get all jumbled up and in the way).
The front of the bag utilizes a flap with a magnetized adherent. This avoids the need for unzipping or separating Velcro or any of the other types of closures. by using a magnet, the process of opening the front flap can be more quickly utilized, with the reverse happening fast as well. A pair of tote straps allow for easy grabbing/handling as well as for slinging over the shoulder.
The Grace Deluxe Laptop Sleeve for 15″ MacBooks and Ultrabooks retails for $59.95 and is surprisingly lightweight (less than 14 ounces). It is well suited for women as it combines functionality with style and an attractive appearance that doesn’t inhibit use. In addition, the bag is part of a collection honoring U.S. Navy Admiral Amazing Grace Hopper who, from the 1940’s up until her retirement at 80 years old, helped develop the first programming language that revolutionized the computer world. That’s a nice thought to be reminded of every time the Grace is pulled out for use.
