It’s that time of year, designers. Get your applications together and photos taken of your latest work- it’s time to start casting for the next season of “Project Runway.” Sources from Lifetime TV and Bunim/Murray Productions announced today that they are now casting for season fifteen of the hit reality television show “Project Runway.” They’ve made the application process more streamlined than ever this year.
“Project Runway” has been the launching point for many now well established designers whose creations regularly adorn the red carpet and show at Fashion Weeks around the country. Even contestants who didn’t win the show’s Project Runway Top Designer title have seen boosts to their careers.
The requirements to apply are very lenient. As in other years, to be considered for “Project Runway: Season Fourteen” you must be 21 years of age or older by May 1. You must be a legal resident of the United States or be able to obtain the necessary visa that will entitle you to legally remain in the United States for the full duration of filming the show which normally takes about six weeks. If you have already had some success as a designer that does not mean you’re ineligible. Anyone who has not achieved more than $500,000 gross sales as a fashion designer is eligible for the casting call.
Full guidelines and the online application form can be found online here. Along with the completed application you will need to include photos of yourself, a copy of your driver’s license, several photos of at least three pieces you’ve completed, and a three to five minute video. The casting agency reccommends entering as early as possible so judges have the most time possible to look over your application and photos.
From these online applications Bunim/Murray and Lifetime TV will select a list of semi-finalists. Semi-finalists will be required to travel, at their own expense, to an interview with casting directors. There are several interview spots across the country and semi-finalists are free to choose which location works best for them.
The deadline to apply is March 28, 2016. In the past the casting agency has held one or two open casting calls that anyone is welcome to appear at regardless of their application status. These tend to be in New York City and Los Angeles. But there is no guarantee that there will be open casting calls this year. Your best chance to appear on the show is always to go through the formal application process.
Applications cannot be saved and restarted once they’ve been begun. It is recommended that you give yourself a full hour or two in order to upload all the necessary materials and answer all questions. Any applications received after the March 28th deadline will not be accepted.
