The Bachelor 2016 star Ben Higgins had a lot on his plate going into the Week 8 episode that aired Feb. 22. That’s because this week was Hometown Dates: the point in the season where families are getting involved, where previously rather hypothetical insta-kids suddenly become very real, where brothers and fathers ask pointed questions on their own turf. And Ben had to do it four times over; to say it was a bit intimidating would probably be an understatement.
If you missed any of the Hometown Dates episode, you may be wondering who went home on The Bachelor 2016 during rose ceremony eliminations. Don’t worry – we didn’t miss a minute! We’ve got the details and a full recap here below, but if you have the show saved on your DVR, you may want to avoid any Bachelor spoilers and stick with this recap of last week’s episode in Ben’s hometown.
Bachelor Spoilers 2016: Who Went Home on The Bachelor After Hometown Dates? (Feb. 22 – Week 8)
First, Bachelor Ben meets up with Amanda Stanton, 25, in Laguna Beach, CA. Amanda was likely the most nervous of the final four women (Lauren, Caila, Amanda and JoJo) going into Hometown Dates week, because it wasn’t just about taking Ben home – it was about taking Ben home to meet her two kids.
Amanda’s two young daughters are slow to warm up to Ben, but eventually they all have fun playing at the beach together. Ben gets a taste of what parenthood is all about when one of the girls has a total exhaustion-induced meltdown in the car on the way home. He handles himself well, but as their time together wears on, you can see the wheels spinning in his head as he realizes that life after becoming Insta-Dad would never, ever be the same. And that’s if he and Amanda lasted; let’s not forget this is a very new, not even monogamous relationship, and he’s already met the kids. Talk about pressure to not break hearts – three of them.
Later, Ben heads to Oregon for another of his west coast Hometown Dates, this time with presumed front-runner Lauren Bushnell. Lauren, 25, confides to the camera that she has fallen in love with Ben, but doesn’t want to let him in on the secret until her family has met him. Before heading off to meet everyone, they hit up some food trucks and Multnomah Whiskey Library.
At the family meeting, Bachelor Ben gets grilled by Lauren’s sister who is “skeptical” of his motives. Ben actually starts to cry during the exchange, which seems to convince the sister his intentions are pure. Lauren’s dad had some reservations, though, so Lauren decided to hold off on revealing her feelings to her suitor for the moment.
For the next installment of this week’s The Bachelor 2016 Hometown Dates, Caila, 24, gave Ben a tour of Hudson, Ohio. They visited her high school and her dad’s toy factory. There was some quality make out time on a bench and some intense conversation with Caila’s mom and dad about commitment and marriage. Caila tells her mom she’s in love with Ben but falls short of telling Ben himself. Though she seems like a sweet person, and it goes without saying that she’s gorgeous, she and Ben honestly just don’t seem like a perfect fit. Her enthusiasm makes her appear less than sincere at times, and Ben sometimes appears less than comfortable in her presence.
In addition to her Hometown with Ben, JoJo, 24, had a secondary story line this week. A bouquet of roses mysteriously appeared on her Dallas doorstep and she was hoping it was from Ben – but instead, it was from an ex. JoJo handles the unwelcome gesture with a no-nonsense phone call, which she wraps up just as Ben arrives.
When Ben and JoJo go to meet the family, it is instantly apparent this is a very tight-knit bunch. Everyone pretty much just begins to pepper Ben with questions, with no polite “getting to know you” period. One of JoJo’s brothers was particularly aggressive in his conversation with Ben, and the whole thing was honestly a bit awkward.
So, who went home on The Bachelor 2016 (Season 20) on Feb. 22 during the Week 8 rose ceremony elimination? Ben sent single mom Amanda home to her babies, apparently not envisioning himself as a parent just yet. Amanda is a beautiful person and her girls are absolute angels, so we hope they find all the happiness in the world following the show.
