Next up he takes on No. 14 Giles Simon who defeated Argentina’s Federico Delbonis in the third round by a final of 6-3, 6-2, 6-1.
Also winning recently was Swiss star Roger Federer who achieved a milestone with win No. 300 for his career. Federer won against Grigor Dimitrov 6-4, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 and admitted it was like playing a mirror since their games are so similar. Federer also became the oldest player to make the round of 16 since Andre Agassi in 2005. After the win, he told the media, “It’s very exciting, I must tell you. Not something I ever aimed for or looked for, but when it happens, it’s very special.” Next up, Federer faces David Goffin, hours after Djokovic and Simon finish their matchup in Melbourne.
In head-to-head competition, Djokovic owns this matchup with a 9-1 advantage. His only loss came back in their first-ever meeting at Marseille in 2008 where Simon bested him 6-2, 6-7(6), 6-3.
