Pain therapy devices have been around for a long time but they’ve never gotten much “air time.” The reason for that is due to how they are built — stand-alone devices require a certain amount of time and patience which must be coupled with a regimental approach. One of the reasons that app-controlled devices (be that an audio speaker or a TV, etc.) have succeeded is due to two reasons: the first being that today the smartphone the app works in always around and the second is that the app itself is able to handle much of the “heavy lifting” that otherwise a person was responsible for. All of this points to the iTENS Wearable Electrotherapy Pain Relief being a success in that it will be used and not discarded.
As to what the iTENS is, it’s a therapy device that works to alleviate pain in a localized area through the introduction of tiny electrical signals penetrating the skin. To put it extremely simplified, these signals stop pain signals from reaching the brain as they aid in helping the body release endorphins (a body’s natural pain-fighter). Obviously the iTNES has been FDA-cleared and is of medical grade for use. Also obvious is that since you can pay $99.00 (large Wings) and buy it yourself without a prescription, no doctor needs be involved.
Before getting into how to use it, let’s focus on what it looks like — a wing with a center puck-like section. Should you prefer, there’s also the small Wing accessory or the Long Strip which sort of resembles a large band-aid (retail being $$19.99 each). But regardless of which you go with, the electronics inside feature a Bluetooth radio for connecting to the iOS/Android app which controls all the functionality. By that it means that there’s no control buttons or tabs on the devices themselves, ?? However you do need to power the rechargeable battery which powers the device and which will then be active for about 24 hours on use.
To use an iTENS, you take one of the gel patches and remove the adhesive from both sides. One side goes on the device itself and the other is applied to the area of the skin where the pain to treat is located (the patch sticks to the skin and holds the iTENS in position and is removable and reusable about 10 times, although buying/having additional patches on hand will be an ongoing requirement). The small Wing work in such places as the knee, elbow and wrist, while the large Wing can be applied to back or shoulder and other larger areas. The wings are flexible of course. The Long Strip goes along areas like the sciatic nerve and tendons.
So the iTENS is ready to go, which means it’s time to launch the app. Dubbed iTENS, its basic purpose is to fire up the device and control (alter) the amount of intensity of the electrical signals that it emits. The app does such things as set the time for the iTENS to be active and control its effect, plus pre-selectable programs for use on specific areas of the body and as regards pain generating conditions. The app tracks the results and charges the progress of the person using it, measuring the pain scale. But unlike other devices used for gaining data, the iTENS also seeks to be proactive in lessening/eliminating the pain as well. Additionally, multiple devices can be made active and controlled simultaneously. Also, because the iTENS is portable, it can be placed on a specific location and left there beneath the clothing at any time of the day, with it being made active at a later time as desired.
Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) is a proven system that is now more accessible, thanks to Bluetooth app control. Any method that can aid in removing pain without the need of medication can be beneficial. iTENS is designed to not only fill this need but to make it totally accessible to anyone seeking its use by 1) functioning efficiently, and 2)fitting in a comfortable manner so as to make the desire to use it even stronger.
