As transformation of downtown Las Vegas continues, Atomic Style Lounge, a retro-themed beauty salon and store, help its grand opening with hip music, 1950s fashions and vibe beyond any hipster on April 13.
The main focus is a full-service style lounge for men and women whether vintage looks to contemporary cuts. Women can add makeup and styling to their services as well as cuts, blowouts, color and hair treatments. Clipper cuts and signature looks such as undercut, executive contour, butch, tampered pomp, high & tight and skinny jeans add to that edge men want along with hot towel relaxation mini-facials. Bumble & Bumble products in Las Vegas will be carried exclusively by Atomic Style Lounge as well as items from small batch companies featuring retro hair pomades in vintage-inspired tins.
Atomic Style Lounge even offers free roundtrip transportation from the Las Vegas Strip in a 1960 aquamarine Cadillac.
Jenn Hunter, one of five owners, explained that everyone wanted to do something different and future retro. “We are amazed we can get to this market space first, and we love 18b [arts district] and we are so excited to be part of the community and help develop it,” she said.
The partners are located in New York City, Los Angeles and Vancouver and all landed in Las Vegas as the perfect spot to open Atomic Style Lounge. “Mid century culture is such a big thing here in Las Vegas,” Hunter explained. “We want to be a part of it.”
David McManus, one of the partners, moved to Las Vegas three months ago after being based in New York City. “Mid century culture, whether it is design, music, style can be brought into the current time without fossilizing it. We are not interested in just museum pieces but we really wanted to create a living extension of design trends from the past,” explained McManus.
Durango 66, a surf/instro/swing/rockabilly band, played during the opening. Their music is unobstructed by vocals with a goal to invoke the sound of summer.
Designed with a custom atomic age décor, each stylist rocks his or her own interpretation of mid-century glamour. A retail space will feature collectibles from the 1950s and 1960s as well as contemporary items with a retro aesthetic. A large stage at the front of the store will feature bands and DJs several times a month fore events.
Atomic Style Lounge is open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday; 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday to Saturday; 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays and closed on Mondays. Located at 1237 S. Main St., call (702) 329 0770 or visit: www.atomicstylelounge.com for more information.
