Artist Alex Ross will today officially debut a new portfolio box set of his artwork based on The Beatles “Yellow Submarine.” The unveiling is set for 2:30 p.m. PDT today in Las Vegas, Nevada at the Beatles Shop in the Mirage Hotel, the home of the Beatles’ Cirque Du Soleil “LOVE” show. The display of his portrait “John, Paul, George and Ringo,” comes almost a year after the announcement was made of the partnership between Ross and Apple Ltd, that was set up by Apple’s North American licensing agent, Bravado International. Ross will appear at the event to sign pieces from his “Yellow Submarine” collection. The artist says he enthusiastically agreed to the Beatles project because he was an enormous fan of the group.
“For as long as I can remember hearing music, I have loved the Beatles,” Ross said. “Not only do I believe they are the greatest musical group of all time, but also one of the greatest things to have happened in human history. ‘Yellow Submarine’ has also been one of my favorite films since I was six years old. The opportunity to work with the Beatles’ likenesses in the very inspired context of the ‘Yellow Submarine’ film is an absolute dream come true. There is so much I love about these men, their legacy and this film.”
“Yellow Submarine” has been praised by movie critics since its release as a classic of animated cinema. It combined pop art styling with innovative art direction and production design by Heinz Edelmann that defined the film’s pioneering look. Ross says his work pays tribute to both of those genres.
