What is an icon? Dictionary definitions say an icon is a person or thing regarded as a representative symbol of something; another definition says an icon is an important and enduring symbol or one who is the object of great attention and devotion. Without a doubt, James P. Williams and Arlington Electric have earned their status of being a community icon in Martin County.
Arlington Electric is a community icon because James P. Williams (better known as Pete) was born in Palm City and graduated from Stuart High School (before it was renamed Martin County High School) and started Arlington Electric on Jan. 7, 1966 and immediately began learning and perfecting his trade with himself and one employee. Today, he employs a team of 45 and on Jan. 7, 2016, Arlington Electric celebrated its 50th year of business in Martin County.
Looking back on some of Arlington Electric’s accomplishments and current achievements in business with service to the community:
- One of Arlington’s first jobs was the Holiday Inn in Stuart. Since then, they’ve provided electric contracting for Martin Health Systems, the Martin County Jail, the Treasure Coast Mall, the Martin County School District, the jail on Stock Island in Key West and Indian River Plantation – to name a few.
- Williams’ twin sons, Robert and Kevin, now help run the family business, and over a dozen of their full-time employees have been with the company for over 30 years.
- In addition to running Arlington Electric, which operates out of a 10,000 square foot office on Dixie Highway in Stuart, Williams spends much of his time volunteering in the community. He has served on the Board of Directors for Treasure Coast Hospice, chaired the Electrical Licensing Board before it became the Construction Licensing Board, was appointed by Governor Martinez to serve on the State Licensing Board, is a past member of the Treasure Coast Builders Association and is a member of the Stuart/Martin Chamber of Commerce.
In becoming an icon, one immediately acquires “rock star” status. To reach this 50 year plateau required hard work and dedication by Williams, his sons and all of the employees that stood by Arlington Electric through the years. Arlington Electric specializes in new construction, service and maintenance. They are located at 3251 SE Dixie Highway in Stuart. To learn more click here.
