One of oldest running jokes in Hollywood is how there are no original ideas left. It feels that most of the movies today are either sequels or remakes (or “re-imagined”). Regarding the remakes, at least they have all been movies from the 20th Century. A lot of them have been horror movies, ones you’d never thought they’d remake like “Halloween,” “Friday the 13th” and “A Nightmare on Elm Street.” Eli Roth quickly became one of the new generation of horror filmmakers with his debut film, “Cabin Fever” in 2002. Can they honestly already be remaking that movie? The answer is “yes.”
If you think this is a lie then click the video above and see for yourself. It was just released yesterday, January 29. So far it doesn’t look like they are changing the story too much as five friends go for a weekend getaway at a cabin in the woods and one of them contracts a deadly flesh-easting disease. If you ever saw the original trailer to “Cabin Fever” you’ll noticed very similarities right down to the same dialogue such as, “Sometimes you’ve known someone for a really long time. You just want to kiss them to see if they’re a good kisser.”
Aside from the new cast, it’s hard to know how much different this movie will be. There’s a female sheriff, but the yokel locals are still on the hunt and they even got someone wearing the bunny mask again. However, the website is promising new kills in this version, so we’ll have to see. Has it really come down to this? Should be expecting a remake to “Unfriended” within the next five years? Let’s hope this is a one time thing, but don’t hold your breath. The new “Cabin Fever” is slated to open February 12, just in time for Valentine’s Day!
