A couple of great April Fools’ Day pranks and jokes played on your boss and co-workers can make you the life of the workplace. On Friday April 1, pranks and jokes will be played over and over again in workplaces across the nation again this year, so why not join in on the April Fools’ Day fun.
If you work in a place where your co-workers or boss have even a slight sense of humor, these pranks will get you laughs, but won’t get you fired! These pranks will get your co-workers talking to inanimate objects and leave them with their jaws dropped when you take control of their computers.
The Heavy reports on March 31, that other cultures have holidays that entice folks to play pranks on one another. They suggest that “April Fools’ Day resembles festivals such as the Hilaria of ancient Rome, held on March 25, and the Holi celebration in India, which ends on March 31.”
Whatever level of joke you decide to play on your boss or co-workers this year, you will get them laughing without a soul feeling hurt or picked on.
Simple computer April Fools’ Day pranks:
*Something as simple as changing the language on your co-worker’s computer will conjure up some fun frustration. A quick Google search will show you how to do that.
*Flipping the computer screen on your co-worker’s computer is an easy prank and it is explained in the video above. It even shows you how easy it is to do this!
*Take control of your co-worker or boss’s computer. Just plug a wireless mouse into the computer than inconspicuously wiggle the mouse around from across the room. Watch as your co-worker tries to take control of their computer! Better yet, when they go to show someone what is happening, that is when you turn the mouse off and give them control once again! Once that person leaves, take over the computer again!
*Put a piece of tape on the bottom of the mouse of your co-worker’s computer. They will do a lot of jiggling around trying to get it to work.
Quick and simple April Fools’ Day pranks:
*Just by putting a small piece of Scotch tape over the speaker of your co-workers headset will have them asking “what did you say,” over and over again.
*Using black construction paper, Cut out some silhouettes of big creepy looking bugs then lay them on the inside of the light cover on the ceiling or tape them to the inside of the lamp shade if the office has a lamp. As soon as the light turns on, it will look like you have an infestation with the silhouettes of some real-looking bugs. You can get a template of bug shapes for cutting out with a Google search if you can’t do this free-hand.
*Duct Tape an air horn, the kind that comes with the compressed air can, to the wall where the back of a door hits when it is opened. Make sure the trigger is facing the door so when it is opened, you will blast them with a good jolt of noise!
*Duct Tape the air horn under your co-worker’s or bosses chair so that when they sit down the chair rests on the trigger! This will blow them right off their chair!
*This is hysterical if you can do it without cracking up in laughter. Make a professional looking sign for the elevator saying that it is now voice-activated. Give the instructions on how to simply call the elevator to your floor. Tell them to lean into the elevator buttons and slowly say “Come to floor____” (Fill in the name of your floor or number.) Make sure you put in the instructions that while the elevator call buttons still light, simply pressing them will not call the elevator to your floor. Then hang around near-by and watch the fun.
*Make this voice-activated sign for any of the machines or technology you have around the office. Watch as your co-workers talk to the soda machine, the copy machine or even the fax machine!
Example: Make your copy machine voice activated with a sign. Give the instructions to say “on,” “state the number of copies” and then say “copy.” In about twenty seconds they will be continually yelling “on” to the machine that won’t listen.
International Business Times suggests using a text for free app to prank your friends and co-workers on April Fools’ Day: This prank never fails to prank someone, it appears so real!
IBT says, “Text-for-free apps allow people who download them to choose a different number and pick any area code they want. Once it’s downloaded, the prankster’s contacts will be downloaded into the app. This means he or she can text anyone in their phone with complete anonymity. Pretend to be a celebrity or a secret admirer. Try these apps: imo, KakaoTalk, WeChat, Pinger and textPlus.”
A step-up in annoyances:
*If your office is equipped with ceiling fans, put confetti or mini marshmallows on top of the fan paddles than ask a co-worker to turn it on later in the day.
*Replace the air freshener spray can in the bathroom with that stinky shrimp spray fishermen use to spray on bait. Make a fake label for the can by copy and pasting and then printing a label for air freshener that you find in Google images. Then glue that label on the can to make it look like air freshener. You can leave a can or two around the office and someone is bound to try and freshen the air. Now that stinks!
*Fill an empty and clean mayonnaise jar with vanilla yogurt. Then gross out your co-workers at lunch by taking out the jar with the mayonnaise label still on and start eating the contents like you would normally eat a yogurt. Tell them you read somewhere that it is good for your hair! Someone is bound to tell you that you are supposed to put it on your hair like conditioner!
*Baby monitors can offer tons of fun when you hide the speaker around the office. Hide the speaker somewhere in your co-worker’s office or cubical. Throughout the day make noises, deep and dark noises like the place is haunted. Meow like a cat or chirp like a bird periodically, this will drive them nuts!
*Copy a paper clip to about 20 pieces of paper and return the paper to the feed section of the copy machine. Watch your co-worker look for the paper clip on the paper screen when it keeps showing up on their copies.
The Cadillac of April Fools’ Day pranks that offer annoyances:
*Fill the bathroom soap dispenser with Elmer’s glue or pancake syrup. Your co-workers will have sticky hands!
*If you are feeling daring you can tape bubble wrap under the toilet seat in the employee’s bathroom. Just listen to the popping sounds when your co-workers sit down.
*Hide a baby monitor in the bathroom and once a coworker goes in there, make some haunting sounds or bodily function sounds and watch their face when they walk out!
April Fools’ Day prank memos:
*Send a memo around the office that times are tough and the cleaning crew has been let go. Instead of laying off staff, you will be doubling up on duties. Tell the staff that they are expected to chip in and help and on the memo include a schedule for the week putting staff names in for cleaning the bathroom, washing floors, etc… This will surely raise some eyebrows.
*Send a memo that during the next staff meeting, you will be expected to raise your hand before talking. State in the memo that a chair in the corner will act as a “time-out” chair for anyone talking out of turn. Top it off by saying a “star” sticker will be added to the employee files of those who followed the rules during the meeting.Write the memo as if you are making rules for a kindergarten class. Watch the eyes roll as you exit the room!
*Send a memo that money is tight and you are cutting costs and you are expecting your employees to help. Tell your staff that for every piece of paper found in your waste basket, you will be charged 10 cents. Coffee is now $1 a cup. To use the rest room that will be 50 cents from now on. Water can only be used for 30 seconds at a time or you will be charged. Throw in a few of your own and send out the memo!
