We have all said we’ve (metaphorically) had “ants in our pants” at one time or another. However, 12-year-old Shreya Darji of Gujarat, India, literally has hundreds of ants in her head, with a dozen or so crawling out of her ears every day.
According to a report in the Times of India, Shreya first began to complain about pains in her ears last August, and was taken to see ear, nose and throat specialist Dr Jawahar Talsania who discovered the colony of creepy crawlies living in her head, “ but has yet to find out why, let alone how to get rid of them.
Although doctors report attempts to try and suffocate the ants with drops of liquid antiseptic, the ants keep reproducing. In addition, they have had no luck trying to find and kill an egg-laying queen ant with laparoscopic cameras. The girl has even been taken to see witch doctors. However, nothing seems to help.
“We have conducted all possible scans on the child including an MRI and CT scan but they are all normal. We cannot find any abnormality in her ears,” Talsania told the paper. “She doesn’t experience any kind of pain, despite the ants biting her, and we haven’t found any damage to her eardrums.”
Darji is currently under video surveillance in an Ahmedabad medical unit.To date, it is estimated that more than 1,000 ants have been removed from the girl.
