Lace up your hiking boots next weekend. Step out of the city and into a scenic panorama inspired by America’s stunning National Parks. This year, the Philadelphia Flower Show has re-created scenes from around our nation’s most beautiful natural territories.
Environments that will be depicted include desert, forest, seashore and mountain locations. Honoring nationally important sites, historic monuments and native art will be part of the fabric of the exhibition.
One of the closest national gems on our east coast is Acadia National Park in the state of Maine. It is the first National Park to be established on the east coast. Located in southeastern Maine, this National Park takes up most of Mount Desert Island. Within its bounds is Cadillac Mountain, the tallest mountain on the eastern coast of the U.S. and one of the first places to view the sunrise.
Acadia National Park was first established as Sieur de Monts National Monument on July 8, 1916, by President Woodrow Wilson and the National Park Service. The need to protect a place of such immense ecological value was recognized and in 1919, and the park was renamed Acadia. Take part in the centennial celebrations this year, and support one of the healthiest family adventures known to mankind – a visit to a National Park!
