Since the launch of their “American Girl Magazine” in 1992, the company has managed to inspire even more young women.
American Girl has various doll lines. “BeForever” is their signature line of historical dolls and books that help teach girls around the age of 8 lessons about the past. Meanwhile, the “Bitty Baby” line is intended for younger girls–such as those aged 3 to 6–and “Truly Me” are a line of 18-inch dolls encourage self-expression and creativity. In 2001, American Girl introduced the “Girl of the Year” line which gives voice to a diverse range of personalities and backgrounds through inspiring, relatable characters that instill a sense of pride in girls and show them there is no limit to what they can accomplish.
Each Girl of the Year character comes to life through her own special story and 18-inch doll, plus several outfits and accessories that reflect her lifestyle, interests, and activities. In addition to the books and products, the Girl of the Year line offers an array of fun and engaging activities to help girls further explore the character’s world, such as live-action movies, online games and apps, retail events and experiences, and learning guides. One of the newest “Girl of the Year” dolls is “Lea” who journeys to Brazil to explore and learn more about her passion in life–animals!
Lea is a fully realized character with a detailed backstory and three books that chronicle her adventures in Brazil as she saves sea turtles and sloths, snorkels and attends vibrant festivals. The Lea books are well written and engrossing while the doll is beautifully made and comes with a colorful dress, cute sandals, a satchel and a compass. Her hair is shiny and soft and her eyes are richly detailed and look quite lifelike. Lea has an app and a movie is coming soon; girls who adore animals will surely find this particular American Girl to be of special interest! Best of all, Lea has her own webpage which includes a lot of information about her personality and merchandise and even some fun DIY tutorials. To learn more, see here.
