Peet like the rest of us battles the societal pressures to keep that ‘young’ look even when you are obviously older than the rest of the pack. It’s okay to be your own age. Treatments, Botox and plastic surgery when you are in the public eye you get it from all sides your job and your family, but when you work in Hollywood there is no letting up. The beautiful 44-year-old told Lenny she cares about her looks.
What woman doesn’t want to like her looks and for others to compliment her? A Buddhist monk maybe. We are human after all. “I’ve bleached my teeth, dyed my hair, peeled and lasered my face and tried a slew of age-defying creams.” Peet reveals, “More than once I’ve asked the director of photography to soften my laugh lines. Nothing about this says I’m gracefully aging.”
Getting Botox or plastic surgeries if definitely off limits for her. The thought of the battle scars frightens her and what if something went horrible wrong. Imagine going through a procedure that is to define your assets and instead somehow it gets botched. Nothing could be more painful and humiliating.

“What’s the point of doing something that makes me look younger if everyone can tell. I want to do the thing that makes me look younger that doesn’t look like I did the thing to make me look younger. I’m afraid of getting a boob lift what if I got septic shock or some other half hazard. I’ve made it this far in one wrinkly piece.”
“What’s more than what if my daughters go to college like I did and take Feminist courses and text and stop shaving their armpits and legs and then end up writing me off.”
Darlin’ there is nothing like trying to please everyone to send a woman over the edge. At some point in your life it becomes a rite of passage. You turn around in the mirror and face the ‘fake soul’ and you turn around and face the people who encouraged it in you and say f*** off. This is me like it or not. If you loved me before you will love me again. If not you will learn to accept it sooner or later or c’est le vie.
When you get to a certain age, and it is different for everyone too depending on the support you have around you, you are not willing to put up with or do things you once had the patience and tolerance for. When you are not a spring chick anymore and life happens you realize there are other important things in the world that you’d rather spend your time on. Things that are meaningful and not so time-consuming and not real. Women age and the sooner people stop expecting a doll-like figure to keep popping out of the cake the sooner we can all be more comfortable in our own skins.

Maybe the folks that make Barbie should have an aging Barbie with her grays showing and her breasts no so perky any more, wearing a pair of loafers now instead of heels. “I didn’t want to be another foot soldier pandering to the male gaze.” Peet said she no longer is going to worry about the things she cannot control.
“We are all going to get wrinkly and die. It’s like when you are in driving school and they tell you to move in one direction, face the skid, turn your wheels right into it. It sounds counter intuitive, but don’t fight it.” Isn’t it a lovely ride?
