Bubbles and candy are two beloved products that a toy company known as Little Kids Inc. has combined via their “Candylicious” line of merchandise. Essentially, Candylicious is a line of bubbles and bubble products that you can eat. Produced with sweetener, these bubbles come in an array of flavors–like grape and cherry–and are actually quite tasty. The brand also has its own mascot–“The Candylicious Bubble Ninja”–who is depicted as a cute purple blob wearing a black mask. Recently Jim Engle, the President at Little Kids, Inc., spoke to the Examiner about his experience working with Candylicious and his hopes for the future of the franchise:
Meagan Meehan (M.M.): When was Candylicious Bubbles started and why was that specific name chosen?
Jim Engle (J.E.): Our product development team started working on the concept over a year ago. We loved the idea of bringing delicious edible bubbles to market and what better paring than the sweetness of candy and the magic of bubbles… therefore creating Candylicious Bubbles!
M.M.: How many items does Candylicious Bubbles have and how do you plan to expand?
J.E.: The Candylicious Bubbles line has three fun product options to choose from including:
• Bubble Machine ($12.99) – The Bubble Machine looks just like the Bubble Ninja character – simply press a button and watch the bubbles soar from his mouth!
• Character Assortment ($4.99) – Features a soft Bubble Ninja character topper – squeeze his head and his tongue pops out so he can eat the bubbles too!
• Assortment ($2.99) – These 20ml packets come with a Bubble Ninja wand and are perfect for gift bags!
All three Candylicious Bubble products come with edible bubble solution, but if you find that your running low you can easily get more solution by purchasing one of our Refill Packs ($6.99) for non-stop bubble fun! We’re looking to add in a few more price points and play patterns, but we have to keep our secrets under wraps for now.
M.M.: Your mascot is the Candylicious Bubble Ninja. How did you come up with him? Can you tell us more about him?
J.E.: Our Candylicious Bubble Ninja is goofy, yet secretive and wise. He was bored with regular bubbles, so he mastered a new formula…Candylicious Bubbles, Bubbles You Can Eat! But beware… with his stealth-like moves he may eat them all!
M.M.: How did you come up with the idea for candy bubbles and was the production process difficult?
J.E.: Our consumer research panel suggested that candy was the perfect pairing with bubbles. Kids love it as much as they love bubbles!
M.M.: To date, what has been the most rewarding part of working with Candylicious Bubbles?
J.E.: Watching kids run around and catch the bubbles has been a blast! It’s just fun, silly play that we just don’t have enough of! And, of course, wearing the Candylicious Bubble Ninja costumed character at Toy Fair!
M.M.: Where do you hope Candylicious Bubbles will be in ten years?
J.E.: Candylicious Bubbles adds a splash of flavor and a special POP to a timeless play pattern. We hope that Candylicious Bubbles will still be enjoyed by the next generation of kids.
M.M.: What advice would you give to someone who is striving to enter the toy industry?
J.E.: Make products that you believe in and never give up on your ideas.
M.M.: Are there any upcoming events that you would like to mention?
J.E.: Follow Candylicious Bubbles on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter to learn more about our upcoming events!
