Ali MacGraw and Ryan O’Neal have lived on in the hearts and minds of generations of fans for their famous roles in “Love Story”. People reported on Feb. 2, 2016, MacGraw and Ryan O’Neal met again for a “Love Story” reunion at Harvard. The actors reunited and visited Harvard University’s campus more than 45 years since their movie “Love Story” hit the theaters.
After all of these years it appears history may be repeating itself for 76 year old MacGraw and 74 year old O’Neal. They are now co-starring in a travelling play which is titled “Love Letters”. This has been described as an enduring romance which deals with first loves and second chances. In this play MacGraw and Ryan O’Neal play the roles of two friends who simply can’t seem to let each other go. They communicate with each other via letters, notes, and cards even though they are each married to other people.
USA Today reports it seems that love means you never have to say you’re sorry about how you decide to promote your most recent project. We saw this as MacGraw and O’Neal drove a cool antique MG convertible together upon their 45 year “Love Story” reunion at Harvard on Monday. “Love Story” made each of them famous movie stars overnight. Their return to Harvard was being used to promoting their national tour of “Love Letters”.
In their 1970 movie “Love Story” O’Neal played the role of a rich-and-preppy Harvard student who married a working-class Radcliffe girl played by MacGraw even though his parents objected. MacGraw’s character than became terminally ill and a lot of drama and tears followed. The couple were charismatic in this intense romantic tragedy. The story was based on the best-selling novel of the same name written by Erich Segal. The tagline in the book and movie was “Love means never having to say you’re sorry.”
The Irish Examiner reported MacGraw and O’Neal got together again to reminisce about the movie which made both of them household names about a half a century ago. The movie was partially shot on the campus at Harvard. In a talk with students the actors said the movie has special meaning now because they’re in their 70s and they are now in the twilight years of their careers.
Each entertainer has had tragedy hit in their real lives. MacGraw has written about her struggles with addiction. And O’Neal recently battled leukemia which is is now in remission. In spite of all of these years and real life tragedies MacGraw and O’Neal still seem to have a lot of chemistry together.
