The Amiga classic tennis game, Tennis Champs, has saved match points and is back on serve for sports video game enthusiasts. 20 years after the original Tennis Champs and Super Tennis Champs launched for Amiga systems, it’s been remade, refreshed and brought up-to-date, so sports gamers in 2016 can topspin and slice their way to victory.
Already getting raves reviews, Tennis Champs has hit the ground running and it’s earned “Game of the Week” honors from TouchArcade. It’s available for the iOS device of your choice, but it really shines on the iPad Air and Mini with the added screen real estate. It was actually remade for iOS by the guy who was the programmer for the Amiga version, so we still have the same on-screen characters, they still possess the same on court traits, but with better looking animation.
The game is addictive. The players move easily around the court with the “newish” controls, but with the feel of the 1990’s version. Practice, play matches, Daily Challenges and if you are in it for the long haul, there is a Career Mode for those that want to be pros. Career mode puts you among the top-200 pros in the world and on the World Tour. Work your way up the rankings and try to win those coveted major titles.
Daily Challenges offer something new each day. Different modes, unique players and mini games each day you can play to get rewards that will help you in your development as a “Tennis Champs” pro. Some of these daily challenges are difficult, so bring all of your skills. There is a great mode on the game to test and practice your strokes. I suggest you make your way through all of the tutorials to get a better understanding of what it takes to not only win points and sets, but win matches. This is a tough game to master and it will get even tougher as the developers are going to be constantly adjusting the difficulty levels.
I love reading well-written and positive reviews of good video games, here are a couple about Tennis Champs:
This game is truly perfect. Career mode is great, gameplay and control is optimized and precisely responsive. This game is a must download! I cant wait for all of the updates!
I’ve played a handful of tennis games in my lifetime, some good, some not so good. But, I’ve never played one that is nearly as enjoyable as TC:R. I never played the original game on the Amiga, but I did play it on a emulator a while back, and it was pretty fun. But, TC:R is an upgrade in virtually every way.
Full credit goes to Uprising Games Ltd. for bringing back this wonderful tennis game for new generations to enjoy. They had to know gamers in their 30s and 40s would get a kick out of seeing this game ready for play. Tennis video games can be a tough sell, because they are difficult to develop. Gamers are nostalgic by nature, so Tennis Champs is going to be a hit. Fans of Tennis Champs are going to not only be playing in various modes, but also waiting to see what might be coming next.
