Police have identified the body of 14-year-old Adriana Coronado, who was last seen on March 12 in the Houston suburb of Katy, where she lived. Her badly burned body was found on Wednesday. Investigators on Friday confirmed her identity. Adriana’s father was found shot dead last Sunday, and an Amber Alert had been issued for the Houston-area teenager.
Writes The Associated Press on March 19, via MSN News: “A decomposing body found in west Houston on Wednesday afternoon was identified as Adriana Coronado, said Houston police spokeswoman Jodi Silva. The body was lying in an open field a few feet from the road. Adriana was identified through fingerprint verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.”
According to local ABC13 News, Adriana died from gunshot wounds, a medical examiner reported. She was shot “multiple times” and her death has been ruled a homicide. On Wednesday, a gardener found Adriana’s body near Wycliffe and Mayfield in west Houston and called police.
Walker County sheriff’s investigators believe Adriana Coronado, before she was killed, watched as her father was shot and then burned. The body of Caesar Coronado was found Monday in a rural part of Walker County. The truck the pair were driving in was later found burned out in Conroe.
Investigators said they do not have any motive for the killings, but they are seeking a “person of interest.”
On Thursday, investigators released a video that shows a Ford-150 Crew Cab driving through a parking lot near I-45. The Ford drives into the video and parks off camera. A fire is started in the truck and a heavyset man is seen running away.
Walker County Sheriff Clint McRae said they believe the man is Hispanic. Locating the man is “crucial in solving this case.” Identifying the suspect may be difficult, since the video never shows the man’s face. “It’s going to take an individual who is familiar with and knows this potential suspect,” to identify who it is, McRae added.
