Miss Betsy is an adorable black and white Beagle/Cocker Spaniel mix who was found as a stray in Hopkinsville, KY, just one hour north of Nashville, TN. Betsy is a sweet, gentle middle-aged girl, approximately 5 years old and weighing only about 25 lbs. She was brought to Christian County Animal Shelter and they have given her a Parvo shot, Bordetella shot and heartworm test. Sadly this beautiful little gal came back heartworm positive. Betsy is a shelter favorite and the staff report that she is very friendly and sweet, loves to nap at her person’s feet and just keep you company. Since she is at a county shelter with limited space, Betsy only has two weeks to be pulled by a rescue before she will be euthanized. Her last day is April 1, 2016. Christian County Animal Shelter works hard to post appealing pet pictures on PetFinder and network through Facebook to save the lives of as many cats and dogs as possible. They do not like to euthanize any animal, however, without treatment, Betsy’s condition is terminal.
Healing Hearts Animal Rescue is a small 501-c-3 certified nonprofit animal rescue organization that specializes in cats and dogs with special needs like Betsy. She has transport to Nashville and funds to cover her spay surgery, microchip and rabies shot. Healing Hearts receives a discount on all veterinary care because we are a certified nonprofit organization. With our discount, Betsy needs $600 to cover her heartworm treatment. Due to her age, this includes an initial exam, bloodwork and x-rays to determine how severe her heartworm condition actually is. Then she will need to be on antibiotics and prevention for one month while she is also spayed. In the second month, Betsy would receive the medication injections to kill the heartworms and have a follow up heartworm test to make sure that she is finally healthy. Once she finishes treatment in 2-3 months, she would be available for adoption.
However, if we do not receive enough donations in the next two weeks, then Betsy will be euthanized at the shelter and never have the chance to know what it is like to live in a real home with a loving family. She has a foster home waiting for her where the foster mom works at home and can make sure she gets plenty of rest and attention while she is in treatment. Please don’t let this precious baby die at the shelter. Donations can be sent securely online through PayPal to firstname.lastname@example.org. If you prefer, you can also donate over the phone to Avenue Animal Hospital at (615) 553-4855 under the Healing Hearts account. So far Betsy has $32 donated for her. A gift of any size can help save Betsy. You can also mail a check to Healing Hearts Animal Rescue at 235 Maple St Madison, TN 37115. If you cannot donate, please forward her information to anyone who loves animals and might be willing to help.
