Actress and screenwriter Jane McLean joins the ‘Supernatural’ fandom with her role as Naoki Himura in tonight’s episode “Safe House.” This Toronto talent is best known for her role as Olfin Tennety in the hit SyFy TV series ‘Defiance,’ her parts in Showtime’s ‘Dexter,’ and TNT and HBO’s original series ‘The Transporter,’ and her acting credits go on. McLean recently won a spot in by NBC and WBTV sponsored CAPE Screenwriting Fellowship, and has an exciting TV project in the works with HWY 61 Films and Darius Films.
Colleen Bement: Welcome to the ‘Supernatural’ fandom with your guest role as Naoki Himura in tonight’s episode called “Safe House.” What can you share about your experience on the set?
Jane McLean: I really felt welcomed into this big, warm family. Jared and Jensen have created a fun and inspirational environment. I didn’t want to leave!! It was one of the best sets I’ve ever been on.
CB: My Twitter followers want to know if there are a lot of shenanigans on the set.
JM: Everyday! In fact, here’s one: (View video here.) was next to impossible to keep a straight face, but I managed to do it!
CB: That was not cool what happend to you on ‘Defiance.’ What do you miss about being on the set?
JM: Everything! I loved working on that show. I was so sad when it ended. The cast, crew, writers and producers were so amazing to work with. And the fans just blew me away. They were incredible.
CB: What can you share about your short films Living Donor and Smokeless, and any projects you have in the works?
JM: On the acting side, there are some fun things on the horizon that I hope to be able to share soon. On the producing side, I have an exciting television project in the works with HWY 61 Films and Darius Films, which we sold to a broadcaster. And on the writing side, I recently won a spot in the CAPE Screenwriting Fellowship, which is sponsored by NBC and WBTV. Plus, in between all of that, I’ve been writing a new legal drama for TV. Needless to say, it’s been an exciting time!
CB: Are you a fan of comics? If so, what is your favorite comic book series or super hero?
JM: Yes, SUPERWOMAN!
CB: Is there anyone you would get star struck over if you ran in to them?
JM: Malcolm Gladwell. I’ve read every book he’s written.
CB: Is there a movie that you find yourself watching over and over again?
JM: ‘City of God.’ It’s a masterpiece
