Action cameras aren’t the rarified devices they used to be — or expensive either. For an extreme example, take the DBPOWER EX5000 WIFI 14MP FHD Sports Action Camera. As the name explains, it’s an action camera with a wide number of features. It even provides a series of colors, should the person be as concerned with how it looks as how it functions (black, white, red, plus silver and others). But going beyond the things you can do with an action camera is the simple fact that you have to be able to afford to buy one if you plan to use it. With a $84.43 retail, this becomes a no-brainer.
Of course price only plays an important part if what you are getting is worth more than what you are putting out. That certainly sums up the EX5000, because it provides all of the accessories that come to mind which are needed if it’s to work as an “action” camera. Use it on a bike, sure just connect it and the handlebars together. How about clamping it to a skateboard or such?? Easy, thanks to a bike clip, camera clip, multifunction clip, helmet clip and more. And since there’s also a waterproof case for the camera to “live” in, that pretty much removes all the issues with moisture or the sudden shower from a park fountain or a rainstorm, etc. (or shooting underwater since the waterproof case can handle depths of up to 30 meters). Plus using it in the waterproof case helps to avoid any issues with bumps or scrapes — the EX5000 is durable but why put it under undue stress? It should be added that its less than 1 pound weight doesn’t mean it feels flimsy either.
Now that takes care of getting the camera set up for use (yes, you can handhold it too), so let’s get to how to use it next. The controls are on the camera, as is a nicely sized (2”) LCD screen, but you’re not confined to holding it or working on it wherever it might be held onto (tripod, anyone?). The free app works with the built in WiFi for remote access with your Apple/Android mobile device (most likely a smartphone, though a tablet is not ruled out) for making the touchscreen into a “viewfinder” or shall we say display for the camera so as to control the camera and/or view what it is aimed at or review what has been shot (real-time pictures and video).
In use, the camera takes. advantage of its wide angle lens with a 170 degree angle of view by having not just a long-lasting rechargeable battery (for more recording time/running time), but also through its support for a TF card that can hold up to 32GB of storage space, which translates into about 8 hours of video @ 720p or 5 hours @ 1080p Full HD resolution.
What the camera does, obviously, is shoot video but also high-res still photos. The main component that all this works through is the 14MP Panasonic sensor; this provides the “oomph” to allow for high quality imaging to be caught, captured and displayed.
Not everyone wants what an action camera provides, but for those who do having the camera be efficient and effective in operation is paramount. But even more so is having a level of quality that makes the shooting being accomplished worth doing. The DBPOWER EX5000 WIFI 14MP FHD Sports Action Camera makes this an easy ride, regardless of what the camera is riding on as it shoots away.
