Plymouth Whitemarsh head coach Jeff Blizzard wonders what had been the highest single game pinfall in the history of the Lady Colonials. Not often has PW reached between 820 and 915 in 11.5 seasons of existence. So far this season, the Lady Colonials haven’t reached higher than 789 in any set.
Maybe the Lady Colonials could one day post similar results as the conference-leading Abington Lady Ghosts. On Jan. 11, visiting Abington recorded games of 859, 827, and 789 in sweeping host PW, 4-0 (2,475-2,140), in Suburban One League Continental/American action at Facenda Whitaker Lanes in East Norriton. The Lady Ghosts have won all eight games against PW this season.
Abington anchor Dana Dahling rolled a 202 game and match-high 554 series. Four hole Nicolette Ray nabbed 500 pins with a 203 game. Two hole Katelyn Frank contributed to the winning cause with a 503 series, no game lower than 142.
PW compiled games of 721, 763, and 656 in the losing effort. Junior anchor Francesca Schoettle-Colelli posted 189, 182, and 173 for 544. Lady Colonials four hole Nicole Esposito had a 479 series, including 167 and 174 games.
Brian Wenders, Abington’s head coach, used the same lineup throughout the match. Blizzard removed two hole Sammie Leeds after a 113 first-game and inserted Jordan Heaton at that spot for the remainder (she rolled 135 and 106).
Losing this match means PW drops to 11-21 in Continental/American and 19-21 overall. The Lady Colonials return to Facenda Whitaker on Jan. 13 for a home contest against conference rival Norristown. Crystal Rose, Norristown’s anchor, entered this week as the conference leader at 179.89 pins per set.
The top 12 bowler averages and three wild cards from the Feb. SOL championships will qualify for the Eastern Pa. individual regional competition on March 4 at 222 Dutch Lanes in Ephrata. Entering this match, Schoettle-Colelli boasted the conference’s second-highest average at 176.15. Dana Dahling (172.83, third), Erica Dahling (158, sixth), Maddie Napieralski (eighth, 157.06), and Ray (153.33, ninth) would represent the Lady Ghosts at regionals if the season ended now.
