There are the very young or the elderly who can’t quite handle or maybe should not have full access to a smartphone. But sometimes access to something like it may be necessary. MDI has developed the new Orbi Mini Clip-Phone Tracker which is designed for use by young children and the elderly who need an easy-to-use device for anytime, anywhere talk, text and tracking. It is available through their Indiegogo campaign and will be available in spring 2016. It is already committed to by mobile providers.
As for the features, the Orbi Mini Clip-Phone Tracker provides talk, text and tracking that is simple and without the expense of smartphones. It has full-featured phone functionality as well as one-touch dialing to 30 pre-programmed numbers, automatic conversion of text to speech, standard texting and one-touch texting with 20 pre-programed text messages. There is an emergency setting to “call next number” if the first call is not answered. Unlike other safety devices like this, the Orbi can be used to call or text any number and is not limited to preset numbers. It is wearable in that it can be clipped to a key-chain, belt loop, backpack, bike, golf bag, scooter or walker, and can be attached to any flat surface, such as a lunch box, car or TV remote. It can actually be worn on a wrist with the snap-on “ring band” or attached to a pendent or jacket. Yes, there is a battery and it lasts 24-hour in standby and 2-3 hours of talk time. Then there is the My Orbi App that the phone connects to (available for both iPhone and Android). You can use the app to ensure the elderly person or the younger child is in pre-determined safe-areas with real-time GPS tracking. The app uses geo-fencing and can send alerts to notify a responsible party when pre-determined safe-areas are left or preset locations are reached such as home or school.
