Tragedy struck a Somerville, Tennessee family on March 19, 2016, when their teenage son was critically injured in a 4-wheeler accident. Matthew Howard was riding in a field when he fell, or was thrown from the 4-wheeler he was driving. The heavy machine then landed on his head, producing damage to his his brain and his face. A six year old cousin, Lane Steward, who was with him, was able to move the ATV enough to get it off his cousin. He then went for help, but believed Matthew was already dead. The child was traumatized, but kept his cool and did exactly what needed to be done. When rescue personnel arrived, Matthew was taken by air ambulance to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis. After being examined, he was placed on life support equipment, and his parents were told by a doctor that there was little chance he would survive due to massive head injury, and swelling and bleeding on his brain, with damage to the brain stem. The diagnosis of probable, impending death was not accepted by his family and friends, and immediately prayers began. The prayers soon spread onto the internet through social media networking websites, and the response became viral, with Christians everywhere praying for his recovery.
Some people will say, and some have already said, prayers to an unreal God can not help Matthew, and explain that only through the doctors’ skills will his condition improve. Well, these naysayers should take a long hard look at the world around them and try to grasp how it could have all been formed without God to do it. As everyone dashes here and there at a pace that is almost prodigious, one tends to become blindsided to the wonders around them, and how there is a far greater force that controls everything from the smallest known particles called quarks, to the massiveness of the “BOSS Great Wall,” which is a super-cluster of 830 separate galaxies. It is so immense that it is one billion light-years across, and is 4.5 to 6.5 billion light-years from Earth. Of course, a light year is the amount of time it takes for light to travel to our eyes from a far away location in space in a single earth year. When you factor in 4.5 to 6.5 billion light years, the results are phenomenal. With this in mind, when you look up into space after dark, some of those stars you see, have exploded or burned out millions of light years ago, and do not exist even though we are seeing them now. How could any of this have been possible without a creator?
With the knowledge that everything ranges in size from quarks to the Boss Great Wall, one should never question that God is real and is the creator of everything! With the immensity of the universe that he created and maintains, it is even more mind-boggling that he can see, hear and answer the individual prayers of each person on earth that believes in him. “How can that be?” It is simple actually; we cannot comprehend the power of God; we are only mortals. We may not be able to physically see God, but we can see his works that are everywhere around us, including the miracles that he has given us.
The Howard family have been through so much, and will have a long road ahead, but they are determined that God will heal their son. Also, there have been many benefits to raise money for Matthew’s care, and these are continuing. For anyone that does not live close enough to go to future benefits, but wishes to help this family in their crisis, visit GoFundMe on the web and make a donation. Above all else, Matthew’s family asks for your continued prayers.
Not only was it a miracle that Matthew survived this horrific accident, God provided another miracle when he guided a six year old boy and gave him the strength to move the large 4-wheeler off his cousin, and then go for help. Needless to say Matthew Howard and Lane Steward created a special bond that day which will be with them forever.
