By now, you probably have heard of or played the phenomena that is known as Rocket League. It has been a game that garnered critical acclaim when it debuted last year, and it’s epic replayability is simply undeniable.
Recently, Rocket League came to the Xbox One and with the game having landed digitally on PS4, Xbox One and PC, it makes sense for the game to come to retailers. Today, 505 Games has announced that they’ve partnered with Psyonix to send the game to retailers later this year on PS4 and Xbox One.
505 Games and Psynoix will bring a retail version of the game in the form of Rocket League: Collector’s Edition, and it is slated to debut during the third quarter of this year. Rocket League: Collector’s Edition will launch with all three major expansion packs the game has received (Supersonic Fury, Revenge of the Battle-Cars, and Chaos Run).
Rocket League currently has over 12 million players across the world and it has sold close to 4 million digital units. Gamers who pick up the title at retail will be able to enjoy “several retail-exclusive bonuses,” which will be announced in the coming weeks. Ian Howe, who is the president of 505 Games, talked about today’s news.
“We are honoured and excited to help Psyonix bring Rocket League: Collector’s Edition to a whole new audience. As big as Rocket League has become, both 505 Games and Psyonix believe that there is still a significant untapped segment of the gaming audience who become aware of products through physical retail,” Howe said.
No exact release date was given as to when the PS4 and Xbox One retail versions of Rocket League: Collector’s Edition, but gamers can expect it to land sometime during the third quarter of this year. Dave Hagewood, who is the CEO and Studio Director of Psyonix, also provided some thoughts on the news.
“505 Games are a proven entity in taking digital brands like Terraria and PAYDAY, and breaking them out through their long-established retail partnerships and on-the-ground expertise to a whole new consumer-base worldwide,” Hagewood said.
