Are wedding registries helpful for brides or a waste of time? Field Agent, the pioneer in mobile audits and research, recently surveyed 100 brides-to-be about their attitudes and behaviors toward the wedding registry. The survey topics included questions about the use of universal registries and thoughts on the recent changes to Amazon’s registry. Here are four interesting facts surveyors learned about brides-to-be:
- 2/3 of brides surveyed are registered at Target, making for the number one response among brides-to-be. Second place to Target was Bed, Bath & Beyond, with Amazon in third place.
- 47 percent of brides stated their fiancé was either extremely or very involved in registering for wedding gifts.
- 70 percent of survey respondents stated they were extremely likely to use a smartphone for some of the wedding registry process. While 94 percent of them are at least moderately likely to do so.
- When Field Agent described recent improvements to Amazon’s bridal registry ( e.g., universal registry, gift-giver tracker) and asked brides how appealing they find the newly revamped Amazon bridal registry (based on what they already know about Amazon), 86 percent of brides-to-be responded extremely or very appealing. Only 2 percent said not very or not all appealing.
These insights are interesting to note because they suggest many reasons why the average cost of a wedding in the United States is on the rise – the more extravagant the wedding plans, the more impressive the wedding gifts. In 2014 the average cost was $31,213 according to TheKnot.com ’s annual survey of brides and grooms. In other words, weddings are good for business as more couples want to be extravagant in matrimony celebrations and expect many lavish wedding gifts. The bride survey respondents were engaged to be married in the next 12 months and already active in the wedding registry process. And culinary gifts are all the rave among engaged brides, including kitchen appliances and cookware as top choices. Want to learn more insights about the bride-to-be wedding registry?
