On Sunday May 1.2016 the Charmcity Skatepark is hosting their forth annual Maryland AM contest. Previously this contest has been held at the Charmcity Skatepark located in Baltimore but this year their newest location in Rising Sun, Maryland will be hosting the event. “Our Mason Dixon location is a perfect venue to host the Maryland AM” said Charmcity’s Mason Dixon location manager Nick Barba. “Can’t wait to see how a contest of this magnitude goes down at this park”, added Nick.
The Maryland AM always has a great mix of local skateboarders and crews from all over the east coast! New England’s Anthony Shetler will be in attendance along with some of his crew from up north. Anthony runs All I Need Skateboards and is about to release a shoe from the legendary brand World Industries.
A staple of the Maryland AM contest is legendary announcer AJ Kohn on the microphone. AJ has been running skateboard contests since the Beast of the East. A contest series which was the dominating am event in the nineties. AJ brings over 15 years of event experience and international professional skateboarding to the Maryland AM, not missing a beat and turning up the heat each and every year! “The Maryland Am is establishing itself as one of the premier events on the East Coast. “I am proud to have been apart of the Maryland AM since its inception!” stated AJ. When AJ is not on the mic or performing in demos or organizing events he is teaching and outreaching to the inner city youth of Philadelphia through skateboarding via The Skateboard Academy of Philadelphia and the Collective Philadelphia.
New to this year is Tailbone Skateshop’s owner Tyler Smith. Tyley will be helping out with the judging. Tyler who was is still recuperating from a tail bone injury started his shop as a way to stay involved with the skate community. “I want to give back to skateboarding and do my part to make a positive impact” Tyler told the Examiner. What a better way to do it than helping out with the Maryland AM contest. Tyler and his shop are also providing some prizing.
This year the contest has picked up a bunch of new sponsors! The newly revived World Industries is going to provide some support. Circa Footwear is going to hook up some prizing. Lokel Clothing and TYME Skateboards are also both new sponsors to the event. Some old favorites back to show support are Supra Footwear, Pyramid Skateboards, Eastern Skate Supply,Tailbone Skateshop, Art of Board, Green Trucks and 410 Skateboards.
Practice and registration for the event are from 10:00AM to Noon. Contest starts at noon! The address of the park is 124 Greenmont Avenue Rising Sun, Maryland 21911. If you are using a GPS it trys to drive you through the back way just keep in mind the park is right off route 1.
