Things got really interesting in Division II-A this season as Knoxville Webb, winners of the last three state titles and five of the last six were beaten in the first round of the playoffs. St. George’s broke through to win their first state title since 2011 beating Northpoint Christian.
For the first time, byteclay.com will roll out an all state team for each classification (1A, 2A, 3A, 4A, 5A, 6A, as well as both Division II classifications). Today, the Division II-A all state team with 34 players selected as 17 spots selected on offense (3 QB, 3 RB, 3 WR, 5 OL, 3 ATH) and 15 spots on defense (4 DL, 4 LB, 4 DB, 3 ATH) as well as one kicker and one punter as well.
Also selected was an Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year and as well as a Coach of the Year. The selection process was based on discussions with Division II-A coaches across the state as well as seeing players live and on film.
The Gryphon were 13-1 and placed six players on the inaugural byteclay.com all state team, four of which will be back in 2016 as they are juniors. Five schools in Northpoint Christian, BGA, FRA, Harding Academy and USJ had three players named to the team.
St. George’s swept the Offensive (Chase Hayden) and Defensive player of the year (Noah Pope) awards while Northpoint Christian’s Greg Wallace took home Coach of the year honors.

Offensive Player of the Year– Chase Hayden, St. George’s- The junior rushed for 2,511 yards and scored 31 touchdowns which earned him the Division II-A Mr. Football Back award. His encore was a 266 yard, one touchdown performance in the Gryphon 50-20 state title win over Northpoint Christian.
Defensive Player of the Year– Noah Pope, St. George’s- Another junior that saved his best for last as well as Pope had 93.5 tackles on the year and 16.5 sacks but his best game was the title game. Pope was a one man wrecking crew as he recorded 14 tackles as well as four sacks to be named the game’s defensive MVP.
Coach of the Year– Greg Wallace, Northpoint Christian- Wallace just finished his third year at Northpoint and have the Trojan program on the upswing. No one in Division II-A would have thought the Trojans would be the one team that was undefeated headed into the title game, now Northpoint will look on getting back to the big game in 2016.
