On-air radio personalities provide you the voice to listen to on the way home from a long day. That’s why these nominees are the 2015 Best in Radio Media. They have what it take to start your day and give you something to talk about. Each of these candidates have years of experience in several markets as an on-air personality. From gospel to contemporary soul music, these nominees are worth listening to. Let’s take a look at our nominees:
Marcus “M.C.” Chapman
Marcus Chapman is a music historian, author, and radio personality from the southeast side of Chicago. He began his radio career at college station WKDI on the campus of Northen Illinois University in DeKalb, IL. After graduating with a Bachelors of Arts Degree and a minor in Black Studies, he joined the staff of Chicago station WGCI, and would later be heard in Indianapolis, Dallas-Ft. Worth, and Atlanta. In 2015 Chapman released Volume One of a music guide called “The Coolest Music Book Ever Made aka The MC 500”, and appeared as an on camera commentator for the TV One music documentary series “Unsung”. He will make more national TV appearances and release Volume Two of his music guide in 2016
Formally known as Shanon Jay, Shannon is passionate about the power of communications and living a balanced harmonious life. As the former Producer of The Yolanda Adams Morning Show on Heaven 97 KHVN, host of Praise After Dark and Host and Conversations for four years. Shannon recently transitioned to Smooth R&B 105.7 where she is now known as Shannon Thomas. Her radio career begin as an intern and has spanned over 3 decades which has afforded her opportunities from Texas to Alabama. Shannon was born in Sweetwater, Texas, but grew up in Garland, Texas where she graduated high school. And while in high school she interned at her first radio station KJMZ 100.3 Jamz. After high school she furthered her education at Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, Alabama in Mass Communications.
In 2010 she landed the morning show slot at TotalPraise360.com an internet gospel radio station where she interviewed many from the likes of David and Tamela Mann to Comedian Joe Torry. She’s no stranger to hosting various events, movie premiers and concerts such as the Red Carpet host of Bishop T.D. Jakes 35th Anniversary Celebration in Dallas, Texas. Shannon is the 2014 Gospel Stellar “People’s Choice” Radio Award Winner and has a honorary doctorate of humanities degree from the Texas Bible Institute and Seminary.
Although she has a very busy schedule, she find time to be a mother of two children. Shannon has always believed that through her lifes’ journey…many amazing moments and trying times. God has a purpose and a greater plan for her life.
Known as “The Daytime Diva with the Voice,” celebrity radio personality, Lynne Haze, has one of the most recognizable voices in radio today. The native New Yorker started her career in radio at WUFO-AM as a news and weekend broadcaster, then later as a late night host at WBLK-FM. Haze has also worked as an on-air personality in the #5 radio market in the country at KKDA-AM in Dallas, Texas.
At the peak of her career, Lynne switched gears and settled successfully into a career in the record industry where for 10 years, she thrived considerably at RCA Records, Warner Brother Records and Mercury Records. Haze has also used her sultry, contralto voice to become among the most sought-after voiceover talents in the industry, having recorded commercials for CBS Records, JC Penney and ABC Radio.

Dareia Tolbert serves as Radio Personality for one of the nation’s inspirational radio stations, Heaven 97 KHVN. Her energy, passion, charisma and sense of humor captures a wide range of listeners, from youth to senior citizens of various colors and creeds. Dareia wields her radio influence to empower, educate, and to stir hearts with laughter. Dareia graduated with a B.A. from Lane College where she set her sight on excelling in the Mass Communications field. While in college, Dareia received a wealth of experience and development in the communication field as an intern for, the Jackson Sun in Jackson, TN, and 101.5 New Talk radio station in Jackson, TN. She also worked for Gospel Music Channel in Atlanta, GA. Dareia’s lively personality attracted listeners even as a novice and as co-host for WFKX 96 KIX Thomas Media and Video Praise. She currently hosts the dynamic, uplifting Praise Party on Heaven 97-KHVN and Inside the 234 on Blogtalk Radio, rendering sound advice and encouragement. Frankie C. Wilson
Frankie C. Wilson Jr. is an award-winning radio personality with over 15 years in media. He is a graduate of Prairie View A&M University with two additional Master’s Degrees in Business Management and Religious Studies. Although he has a history of working professionally as a singer and musician, Frankie is possibly most notable for his multiple award-winning radio show Inside Gospel, which airs across the United States, Canada and South Africa. As a self-professed workaholic, Frankie is additionally busy working as a host, motivational speaker, blogger, mentor and philanthropist. Utilizing his business knowledge, media strengths and calling in ministry, he runs a successful media content company named V.M. Communications, LLC and a non-profit organization named THE GIVING PROJECT.
In 2013, Frankie created Inside Gospel LIVE – a live concert format of his popular radio show. Inside Gospel LIVE is a widely successful road show for him and a staple to the largest music, film and digital festival in the nation known as South By Southwest (SXSW). Inside Gospel LIVE provides a platform for national and indie music artist to perform and benefit THE GIVING PROJECT through finances and awareness.
