1708 Gallery welcomes ‘Garden Week’ with a reception Friday from 5 to 9 p.m. Artists Alex Arzt, Carrie Dickason and Jeff Schmuki will each speak during an artist talk at 6 p.m. “Garden Week invites an exploration of our relationship with the natural world,” the gallery said in a press release. The exhibit is inspired by Virginia’s annual Historic Garden Week, and also features works by Naomi Reis. “Each artist approaches the interaction of human and nature differently, as issues of environmental stewardship, preservation and collaboration thread the works in this exhibition,” which is on display through Sunday, June 4.
An opening reception will be held First Friday May 6, from 7 to 10 p.m. for Terry Lynn Smith, Elaine Bankston and Susan Hribernik at Visual Art Studio. An Artist’s Talk is scheduled at 6:30 p.m.
“Cowgirls are Easy to Love,” features figurative oil paintings by Smith, and will be on display through Thursday, June 16. “Fusing hyper-realism, beauty, eccentric hairstyles and western fashion, she has created an exhibition full of passion with vibrant colors and textures surrounded by a rich countryside,” the gallery said in a press release.
Bankston’s plein air paintings are on view in “On Location-Treasure Coast, FL.” On display through Sept. 30, the paintings were created while the artist was in Florida. Richmond residents will recognize the images in Hribernik’s ‘James River Views.’ According to the gallery, her photos were taken at different times and during different seasons, but reflect many favorite places, and will be on view through Sept. 30.
New works by Tim Harriss are on view through Saturday, May 14, at Eric Schindler Gallery.
